here would be a cheaper method than even that. just buy aluminum foil and tear them into strips, connect the strips and then you can make your own wire, 5 bucks tops for probably close to 100 feet worth of high fidelity aluminum wire. a little secret, between you and me, if the wires touch it increases the tweater responsiveness due to cross channeling. its not like in ghostbusters where you dont wanna cross the streams...here you do.....

    Hello all. First post here.

I saw the pic and laughed out loud! It just goes to show ya how creative some people can be. This idea only works if you have no kids or pets. My cats would have shred that set-up in a second. To each their own.

That's a ridiculous suggestion. It may very well increase the extension of the tweeter, right before it shorts your amplifier and possibly blows something up.

IMO, they should change the business name to Moron Audio.

Due to the nature of wire for inductors, isn't it already insulated?

I was hoping that it was, but just in case a new person read that....you know what I mean? Thanks for letting me know and I do appreciate the humor in that.

MJR - Who are you asking?

Mapleshade Audio covers their ICs with a plastic wrapper to avoid shorting. Then they charge over a Franklin for 'em!

    Mapleshade ICs

I won't discount the sound of this method until I hear some for myself, but I sure would hate for cats or kids to 'eff up my system by running behind the rack and shorting things out by touching something together.

Open wires of anykind are asking for trouble. We all know how hard it is to keep kids fingers off the shiny tweeters when our speakers are sans grills.

Anyone who wants to listen really, Inductor wire is insulated so the inductor can it's job, otherwise it would be like soldering your speaker wiring to a copper doorknob or some such equivolent, well, at least the magnet wire I have is insulated, I can't imagine the foil being that much different though. Sound right Doro?

You are correct, inductors in wire or foil are coated for that reason. This coating is often in the 0.000xx" area and not safe enough for a moving interconnect IMO.

Inductors are used in a singular capacity, soldered in place and typically tacked with glue or tape....and often never moved again.

You don't rewind inductors or take them apart to look at them as creasing and fatigue becomes a factor.

It was a safety note, not an end all. If someone would like to do that, and they are just SO cheap that they feel comfortable doing it, then I wish them all the luck. I think those types of "experiements" should be left to someone else, and someone else's gear.

Cheaper or more expensive doesn't mean better...this hobby will certainly show the extremes of both.

Good point doro, all around. I completely forgot the wear and tear factor, good thing I wasn't thinking to use and Inductor in the first place :)

MJR - I know what you're saying, the comment was certainly valid.

Air - I think that the individual was upset at the high cost of Home Depot lamp cord....you know, with taxes and all, it gets insane.
