All of these pale in comparison to what I just experienced! The Excitement, The Tension, The roar of the liniment and the smell of the crowd.....
What in the world could be this intense?!?
A Spelling Bee!
My Daughter was one of the 5 kids that did well enough at her grade school to move on to the District Finals. She finished 1st in her class, second for her grade and today she won FIRST PLACE for the whole stinkin' district!! Last year she made it to the District Level and got a severe case of The Nerves and got bumped out on her first word. This year was another story altogether. Imagine if you will a field of 45 highly gifted, talented, and well trained elementary school kids that are out for blood. You could feel the tension in the air. Parents were wriggling in their seats, nails were being chewed, hands wrung together with every letter that was uttered. The Carnage began during the first round...16 kids fell to the horrendous cry from the judges table.... No, That is not correct! The contestants were thinned down to meager numbers by multi-syllable words, the dreaded I before E, except after C rule failed to help some of the weaker players. Tears were shed by a few kids, and even more by their parents. It was truly gut-wrenching spectacle the likes of which I have never seen! I felt the pain of every parent as their child floundered but in the bowels of my very being I felt that victory was within reach. Now we were down to 2 battered and bruised contestants and 1 young lady that maintained her composure despite the overwhelming odds she had faced so far. We sat through 2 and a half hours of mind numbing recitations of the words we had helped her study for the past four days. She seemed to have a distain for the Judges and Pronouncer as she rattled off the proper spelling of each and every word, sometimes beginning before the Pronouncer had even finished giving her the word. She teased us with well-placed pauses designed to raise our blood pressure and nearly caused her Grandmother to faint.

Woo Hoo! I can't believe you didn't complain about the prize not being a Polk speaker....sheesh, how will we assimilate here if she doesn't own Polk!CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

Frank, that ROCKS!!! Give her my congrats! Congrats to you and the Wifey also.
You're posting was downright hilarious. Loved the "Ruthless bloody war" sound to it.
When is Regionals?
JohnNo excuses! -
Regionals are supposed to be around the end of March, we'll find out for sure later this week.
She really did blow away the competition, and that's not just a proud parent spouting off. We had alot of parents around us just shaking their heads in disbelief everytime she rattled off a word. Even the judges were stunned when she fired off many of her responses without waiting for the pronouncer to finish saying the word. It was wild. I never imagined a spelling bee being that fun or nerve wracking. Deb and I both are exhausted, but we're taking the kids out for steaks to celebrate.:)
Thanks for the kind words everyone. Rebecca is tickled to see herself on the WWW and is amazed at the responses so far.
Thanks again! -
You have made the Club Polk Forum very proud! Keep up the good work!:)

I was just kidding around. I been here for awhile.
Actually Micah hooked me up with my Polk Audio sign, which I had Matt sign a few years ago at a "Listening Night" here. Everytime someone asked him a question I would say "Good question, that guy/gal should get a tee-shirt!" Couple weeks later I get a free tee-shirt in the mail! I've got my freebies already.:) -
