where to place my surrounds?

I'm having the hardest time figuring out where to put my FX500i. The seating area is at the end of the room which has a wall so technically the speakers won't really be behind the seating area. Also there's no wall on the left hand side of the room since it's an open space through the kitchen. But I can easilly make some brackets to put speakers on that side if needed. Should I put it to the side of the sitting area or the back corner?

Sounds like you are talkin' 5.1, so that'd say behind you.

yah just a 5.1 it won't really be behind me it'll be on on the side of me but I guess would I want the bi-polar speakers to fire left and right or front and back of the seating area. And also would I want the mid drivers facing towards me .

Ok here's the room. To your left hand side that's the wall, see the open space leading to the kitchen area on the left? See the patio doors with paint all over it? The seats will be right there back to back with the doors. As I stated before I can always make brackets to mount the surrounds so that ths speakers can bounce back and forth of the room. Mounting the speakers in the back wall so they fire side by side of the room won't be a problem at all.

BTW: Excuse the mess, we're doing major renovating @ the moment

sounds like you have your answer right there. place them on some brackets.

you can also mount them on the side wall near the back. they don't ALWAYS have to be placed directly behind you. since they are bi/di polar the sound is so diffused.. that minor displacement won't be a problem.

mine in 5.1 are mounted on the side way. near the rear of the room. sounds really good to me.

don't stress out about it. enjoy.

    One word... "stepladders"...

Grab a couple of six-footers and try your surround in potential locations. Very worthwhile in any case and especially so when you are considering wall mounts.
