It's an Adcom GFA-6000 and it's in the shop right now. It's been there for three weeks and they haven't even given me an estimate yet. Needless to say I'm getting a little impatient now. I haven't been able to speak to the technician yet but I got a saleman to read me the poorly written work order and he said it says resolder the PSB. Is this very hard to do, as in something I could do myself? Any guidance would be appreciated.

I'm guessing they mean to re-solder the power supply board. That entails re-heating each solder joint. They are guessing there is a cold solder joint letting the thing become intermittant. It is easy to do but they may find it does not fix the problem and therefore have to work on it some more. Once it gets in this service loop only the tech knows what he is doing. (hopefully:D )

Techs don't seem to want to waste time talking to people or writing things down. It doesn't do anything for them except waste time they could be using better.

Hummm.....so you're saying I should just be patient and wait it out?

The problem was with the left front channel. It worked, but it was significantly quieter that the other channels. It was almost like the gain was turned way down.

I don't know. If the tech is good it is worth the wait.
