I have a reciever that pushes 100wx5 (kenwood) and it doesnt really seem to really push hard enough. However it has preamp outputs for each speaker. If I get a 5ch amp, will it add power to the reciever or will it only be powered by the new amp. thanks

The amp will power the speakers, and your receiver will function as a processor. Your Kenwood will still retain its 100 watts, it just won't be strained trying to drive 5 speakers.

I have a 2 chnl amp driving my mains and a monoblock driving my center. I let my Denon handle the back speakers.

Get an amp. Your speakers & receiver will thank you for it.

so if the reciever is processing the sound to the amp which is pushing it to the speakers, then would you change the volume thru the recievers remote controll or thru the amp somehow. thanks!

You would change the volume via the receiver's remote control.
