Why don't you just hook them up to your B speaker terminals and turn that on?Arcam DiVa AVR300 Receiver

They're different enough that I wouldn't suggest doing that, it would color the sound, cause comb filtering, let loose the Apocalypse and so on. (Just kidding about that, I'm not sure about the comb filtering.) You might be better off putting your RT35i's elsewhere and making another system.

Some folks like the sound from stacking bookshelves on floorstanders.
Real issue is will your amp/ receiver handle the 4-ohm load that results from wiring the two in parallel, which is what you are proposing will do...
Try it at modest volumes, and see how it sounds and if your amp gets warm/ hot...More later,

If flip the RT35is upside down and put them around 2 -> 3 feet above your RTi8s. You will add height to the sound.Win7 Media Center -> Onkyo TXSR702 -> Polk Rti70

the second set of binding posts are for biwiring and biamping, thats not how you would hook them up.
just run another wire out from your receiver or amp to the other set of speakers. like tour said tho, make sure that your amp can handle a 4 ohm load.
