Hi All,

Speakers:

RTi4 (Surround)
CSi3 (Center)

SVS PB10-ISD (subwoofer)

Receiver:
Yamaha RX-V650 (7.1, 95 wpc at 8 ohms)

Any comments/suggestions are welcome.

Wow!! thanks for your quick feedbacks.

I am looking at this HT setup for 4 to 5 years period (no upgrades whatsoever during this period) so want to make sure that I don't make any bad choice over saving 200/300 dollars now.

My little concern is about this receiver especially after going thru' all the feedbacks about how Yamaha rates their wpc, is it all channels driven etc. I just want to make sure this receiver RX-V650 is sufficient enough to drive these speakers.

I was also looking at Denon 2805 but I don't want to go for it unless I hear from you guys that Yamaha rating is not what they claim..

Also any suggestions to get these polk speakers from authorized dealers at low price. crutchfield.com is one place I am looking atleast saving sales tax.

    Thanks again for your comments/suggestions.

Don't know about any authorized Polk dealers in your area. E-bay is one way to save a sh*tload though ( just sucks about the warranty ). Personally as far as the Yamaha vs Denon, I would pick the Denon. The net should give you a lot of info and narrow your choice down. Good luck in your endeavor and ROCK ON!;)

If you like the sound of the Yamaha better, then pick it. If you're asking which one between the two, you'll find that most people will reccomend the Denon over the Yamaha, myself included.

Denon just seems to mate best with Polk speakers. Yamaha tends to be a bit bright for some people.

I'm not saying one is better than the other, just that Denon tends to work well with Polk overall. I imagine that if we conducted a poll, probably 50% of the people that responded own Denon, the other 50 % owning other brands.

When I first started looking to upgrade a which back, Denon was the most reccomended...

You might look at Fry's outpost for speaker prices. I don't know if they are an authorized dealer though.

Appreciate everyone's personal opinion about the receivers.

About the Fry's outpost,.com, I visited the local Fry's store (authorized dealer) as well as checked outpost.com, crutchfield.com, the speaker prices are same at all places.

Ecost has some steals on refurb Denon stuff. Got my 910 from them for $128, at the time they were $299 new. It looked brand new like it had never been used.

If you are worried about price, check Crutchfield's scratch and dent section for the speakers you want. They are usually $30-$75 cheaper per pair there if you can catch it for that. BTW, my Yamaha sounds fine with my LSi7's. I would by Yamaha again if I had a chance to upgrade.

    Have fun with your system.

I went to the local tweeter to try listening to Yamaha & Denon just to see whether I can make up my mind though I am not much of an audition guy.

They had Yamaha RX-V650 & Denon AVR1905 connected to RTi6 speakers in one room. To my ears, Yamaha looked bright and Denon warmer. But in the other room RX-V1500 & Denon 2805 were connected to LSi speakers. With LSi speakers RX-V1500 looked good to the music.

Of course having said, I am not much of an audition guy and I don't know whether this comparison is a proper way to judge this. Anyway I'll try spending some more time to try listening and hopefully(??) make up my mind.

I don't think comparing the rti to lsi was a good move, you should have asked they guy to swap out the speakers with the receiver you are interested in leave the lsis out of it

BTW, I don't think anyone asked what your current budget is.

If you want a system that will hold you for a while, have you thought about getting a few pieces at a time to get the best quality possible?

That is what I have done and I fairly happy with my system.

    Hi guys!
Here is my update with the setup. I have bought the following speakers and receiver but yet to hook them up all.

    Denon 2805
    RTi8 (Front)
    CSi5 (Center)
    FXi3 (Surround)

I might upgrade this setup with SVS subwoofer may be end of this year. I am planning to order the Signal Cables tomorrow for the Digital Coax, Single wire 13 AWG speaker wires(Front & Center). might go with less pricey cable for the surround.

I am pretty impressed with the kind of information I gain from this forum. Thanks to all of your comments & suggestions.

I am waiting for the speaker wires to be shipped, in the meantime I have a question about setting up the speakers. when I looked thru' different threads setting RTI8/RTi10 large or small, most of the threads talks about it with the presence of subwoofer. I don't have subwoofer for now (might get it later) until then can I set RTi8 as large and all other speakers as small.

    RTi8 (Front) - large
    CSi5 (Center) - small
    FXi3 (surrounds) - small

My receiver is Denon 2805 in case you need this info.

Yes, set them to large. You may even want to leave them set to large after you get a subwoofer. It it up to you.

    Thanks okiepolkie!

How about the crossover frequency setting? Does it matter what this is set to when the speaker is set to "large"?

For now yes set them to large, depends on what sub you get you can set them to small they will shine more in the mids, and the pressure to play the bass on those will be releaved and sent to the sub which will have it's own amp
