On my Denon H/T setup... tone controls are set to the middle.
My CRS's are powered from an older Yamaha Natural sound receiver with a "loudness" potentiometer (knob).
I leave the bass and treble in the middle on the Yamaha... but
often at low volumes, I detenuate the middle of the signal with the variable loudness control.

Variable Loudness control is entirely useful.
You just really can't get the same effect by cranking up the bass and treble.

Another outdated technology (like SDA) that was a hell of a good idea. When you turn down the volume in the middle, the music still sounds crisp (highs) and deep (lows). Master Volume control is usually left at about 11pm position (kinda cranked up there).

99% of the time I listen with everything flat (centered)
    Dodd - Battery Preamp
Monarchy Audio SE100 Delux - mono power amps
    Sony DVP-NS999ES - SACD player
    ADS 1230 - Polk SDA 2B
DIY Stereo Subwoofer towers w/(4) 12 drivers each
    Crown K1 - Subwoofer amp
    Outlaw ICBM - crossover
    Beringher BFD - sub eq

Where is the remote? Where is the $%#$% remote!

Mostly flat on everything, with some embelishment on some the highs for certain material.

On my Arcam I have the bypass button on.

Makes the signal path shorter, plus it doesn't affect the sound (well, tonal control wise)
