Not really anything too exciting, but I was reading this Monster Cable article and was surprised to see a quote from Paul DiComo. The article was about the renaming of Candlestick Park to Monster Park, bt then delved into the topic of whether cables make a difference.

Monster was the "relatively little known company". I hope people don't associate polk with monster...

    me too...

I'm sorta torqued that my Carver amps have stickers that say 'wired with Monster Cable'. Back then, Monster WAS a little known company. Still pisses me off though.

"...took a job at the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, a government nuclear research center near San Francisco. At the lab, Lee says, he received toxic doses of radiation that led to a degenerative nerve disorder."

Maybe this is why he wants to take control of monstervintage.com from its owners.

Seems like Ms. Kessler has misquoted at least one person. There's definitely a good letter sent to her by the head honcho at audioholics, Gene DellaSala. I've spoken with Gene on a couple of occasions before, and its sad to see such a class act have his words mis-used for such crap.

    "USAToday Endorses Monster Cable Products?
Posted Monday, January 17 2005, by clint

Several weeks ago we were asked for our opinion and analysis of high end speaker cables and how price related to performance. We spent much time on the phone with USAToday and were confident that the writer would be objective and that we were given ample time to deliver our opinions via phone and email. Overall, several hours of time were invested in this in the hopes that some objective truth could make its way to the public through this medium. We now feel that we were duped into supplying ammunition for a rather poorly-written, one-sided opinion side-bar piece designed to endorse Monster Cable through a flawed subjective test, almost deceptively poor product comparison, and lack of much subjective information whatsoever. We are very disappointed to say the least and thought that our readers would like to see our official response to this debacle. If you ever wanted proof that the media is biased, look no further."

Yeah, that's a pretty crappy article. Nice Joe Six-pack system there, Sony electronics and Bose speakers.

    This says it all:

"We cut the cables into 10-foot lengths, hooked them up to identical pairs of Bose speakers and connected them to a Sony stereo system. "

    effin pathetic.

Ms. Kessler, contributing writer for the USA Today, otherwise known as McPaper....shall forever be known as Monster ****.

I've talked back and forth with Ms. Kessler via email now, and I just can't get it through her head that her little A/B comparison yielded no usable information. Any engineer/scientist/etc see's that there are a ton of flaws in the test.

I would hope that Polk Paul will drop by and comment....since he's essentially a player.

Some people will never get it. In one case, a co-worker of mine gave the Bose A/B test to another 'Bose is the Best' lady. The test lets you A/B between one dual cube and one Polk or Infinity.

Lady: "The Polk only sounds better because there is only one Bose cube."
Co-worker:"Ma'am, there is only one Polk speaker playing as well."
Lady:"If there were all 5 cubes playing, it would sound better."
Co-worker:"Ma'am, based on your experience, don't you think 5 of these Polks would sound better than 5 of the cubes?"
Lady:"No, Bose makes the best speakers don't they?"

My co-worker just gave up on this one. This is the only time the A/B has "failed".
