Mixing Brands

I've got a Denon reviever and some T90e's, and a friend just handed me down some BOSE 201 series IV speakers he thought I could use as rear speakers. If you're familiar with the bose speakers, hopefully you can give me some advice.
Ive been advised by others against mixing speaker brands when assembling a surround sound stereo system. Should I use these speakers, or try to sell them and get polks? Any input would be appreciated.

I personally have no experience with Bose, but I think you'll find the general consensus is to sell them and get some matching Polks. Do a search on Bose and you'll get an idea of what the majority thinks of them.

Don't worry about mixing brands, especially for the rear.

    Agree with EB...

While Bose is not atop anyone's list around here, you've got them so give them a try and let your ears guide you from there...

It really shouldn't matter what you use back there as long as you like it, would your friend be offended if you did not use the speakers he gave you?

depending on your wants. I love 5 ch music/dsp and wouldn't think about mixing speakers for my rears. Withthat said I'd be pretty happy with most speakers as surrounds as you don't get much direct sound and it gets dithered by the SP.

Point taken, Kevin... for 5 ch music (which was in the original question) matching is more of an issue that for HT.

Still, he can listen for himself...

Thanks for the input. I can't put them into my system for now because I'm at school and my stereo's at home, but I'll give them a listen before I make any decisions.
