I scored a PS2 today from a coworker. He got it last Christmas and played it once over the past year. I had no idea on value, so I offered him $60 for it. Since he didn't pay for it, it was only a gain for him.

When he brought it by this afternoon, it had:
1 console
2 Sony controllers
1 Sony memory card
4 games: MLB 2004(for PS1), NBA shootout 2004(also for PS1), Robotech Battlecry, and Nascar Dirt to Daytona

Didn't really expect to get all of that, but I think I got a pretty good deal.

This is the first time I have done much with a PS2, so any suggestions for good games are welcome.

Gran Turismo. 1, 2, 3 or 4 which is coming out in February.

Also, Driver and Driver 3. Driver 2 sucked the big one. I like the Driver games better than GTA. Better story line and not so much assinine junk that you HAVE to do.

I like some of the sports games (Madden, NCAA football, Sega's college basketball game). I seem to get more play time out of them.

I've stopped getting the strict storyline games since there's not enough freedom to run around and screw around.

And oh yea, San Andreas is a must have. I finished the game in about 40 hours and have put in about 10 hours of **** around since then.

nice score Okie, there are hundreds of games out for the PS2. just about any type of game you can think of... there is some to be found.

I'm currently playing a role playing/shoot em up type game called Ratchet and Clank - Up your Arsenal. it's a fun game. not extremely difficult.. (my level) and provides hours of fun. Not that many people are into role playing games it seems. but I like em.

The first Rachet and Clank is pretty damn good too. Go grab Tiger Woods golf 2005, good game.

Good deal. It pisses me off that there are games released for PS2 only. If you're going to make a game, you gotta hit Xbox and PC, too. I bet a lot of game manufacturers lose potential money doing that kind of crap.

Sony, Microsoft, Nintendo...negotiate exclusive rights with certain developers and certain games as part of the contracting negotiations and bidding. There's a certain ammount of haggling that's involved in the process. That's why not all games are released on all platforms and others are put up to the scrutiny of timed contracts. So GTA:SA came out for PS2, but will be on XBox and PC after a certain ammount of time. It sucks, but that's business.

Well, it sure doesn't make me run out an buy a PS2 just so I can play those games. Screw 'em :)

Can anyone tell me why most games are only in Pro logic II, and not Dolby Digital?
My initial hypothesis is that since you there are so many variables in the game, it would be difficult to localize multichannel effects.

For PS2, there is no true multichannel sound. If you see DD or DTS, its encoded in DD or DTS, but its discrete for the front two channels and is matrixed for the other channels. So its basically always PLII even if it says DTS or DD. And there's also a ton of simple 2 channel games. There's no discrete 5.1 on PS2 since the hardware doesn't support it.

Xbox on the other hand has all of their games in discrete DD 5.1.

*thinks hard about trading in PS2 for Xbox... but have desire to play Gran Turismo 4*
