Hi,

I am on a limited budget - a friend offered to loan his Polk R15 bookshelf for use as a center on my system which currently uses R30's as fronts -

Any issues?

Disadvantages?

Alternatives? (must be economically feasible)

Thanks!!

No problem with that, just make sure you hook up one R15 if your receiver can only handle an 8 ohm load (like most.) If you can handle four ohms, keep in mind that there may be comb filtering, but that is up to you whether you care or not, try stacking them so the tweeters are closest. that wuold give you best results.

There isn't anything wrong with using a bookshelf as a center(just look at my signature). Besides my current setup, I used an RT35 as a center for a quite some time.
If you look at the CSi20, which would be the match for R30's, it only uses one woofer and a tweeter. Therefore there won't be a lot of differences. The R15 should have the same woofer and tweeter if I remember right(someone correct me please if I have this mixed up).

Get it, hook it up, and enjoy it.

The Polk Audio CSi20 center channel is almost the same as the R15 except the CSi20 lays on its side. So, basically, lay the R15 on its side & you've got a slightly smaller CSi20. :D

    The R30 has a 6 1/2" woofer. The R15 & CSi20 have a 5 1/4" woofer. They all share the same 3/4" tweeter.
