I am putting the final touches my system and would like some opinions on a sub choice. I have RT1000I's. CS400I, and am waiting with anticipation the arrival of the FX500's. I have a medium size room approx. 12x15, although one side is is partially open to another room. Which sub would you folks suggests, there are some great deals out there right now.

Thanks
Dave

i would highly reccomend HSU's vtf-2. i recently upgraded to 2 of these. one filled my space nicely, and it is 15x25. the second really helped to mask the placements of the subs. i think one of these subs would be plenty for your size space. these can be ordered directly from the hsuresearch site for $550 shipped, or i've seen some on ebay for $450 shipped...

Dean-To give a response to this post you don't need to know the price range. You need to know the for meantioned speakers to know what will match best.

Dave-The 350 would not be enough, the 650 would be best if you want to go with Polk. I would suggest others, like what Juice recomended, the 650 will give out around 30Hz. With other makes I would go with anything which could go to at least 25Hz but 20Hz and below would be better, check the specs. With the sub n the 1000s you need a sub which can get go the full lower octave (16Hz-34Hz) or its not worth the money.

i was being a little sarcastic - but more times than not there is not enough information to give the proper response.

Actually - he could in fact easily spend anything between $1000 and $3000 (Velodyne HGS18).

The consensus on most of the net is that the SVS subs pack quite a wallop - again, can be kind of pricey depending on the performance you are looking for.

As far as your advice goes - most subs pick up part of that lower octave - but there are but a handful that go to 16Hz - and those are extremely expensive. I'm not talking 20db down at 16Hz either. I don't think $1000 is going to cut it here.

Most subs capable of moving any air at 20Hz are going over the $1K mark themselves.

I bought an SVS 16-46PC for $819.00 in december, this unit puts out some serious bass in the 20hz region . . I'm really happy with it and don't feel I overpaid at all . . The SVS website can give you more info/specs

Dave-You might want to check out the P.E. DIY sub. It is $380 delivered and will go below 24Hz cleanly. If you don't mind eBay a used ULD-15 or 18 will be around $700 and the 18 can cleanly go to 15Hz the 15 will go to about 20Hz cleanly. I have a ULD-18 and am very happy with it as with the P.E. subs. I also think the SVS are very good and I agree with Juice 100%. Velodyne HGS series is very over rated IMO. The Velodyne CHT or a used CT series is a good bang for your buck too. If the F series Velodyne is in your price range it can hit 16Hz. If you really want to blow some bucks the Martin Logan Decents are awsome.

A couple of subs that have really drawn my interest of late, and would be strong contenders to earn my dollar, would be the often mentioned HSU VTF-2(3), and this new honey I'm starting to become enamored of ... the Monitor Audio ASW 210. I think the ASW 210 can be had for $7??.00 and is apparently a great musical sub. I want all three of these subs.
