    Ok,

    What speakers? (brand/model)

    What kind of reciever? (brand/model)

What you mean copper sticking out of the reciever? (the plastic from the speaker wire should almost go against the reciever, the copper should all be contained inside the connector. (Then again, I could be visualizing what you mean incorrectly....)

I am not familiar with that dvd player. Does it act as the reciever as well?

Are you confident that none of the speaker wires are shorted? (even one strand of the copper wire from the red side of the reciever or speaker touching the black side of the reciever or speaker)

What is wrong with the way the speakers sound now compared to how they used to sound? No Bass? No volume? distorted sound? cracking noises?

Is it both speakers giving you issues or only one? If it is only one speaker that has a problem, what happens if you reverse the way the speakers are hooked up. (left to right) does the problem move with the speaker or say where it is?

I know its alot of questions, but it will help track down what the problem is.

is it from both speakers? (the noise)

Do you have any other speakers (even a really cheap set) that you can hook up to test and see if they produce the same noise?

Assuming that you mean yes you have another set of speakers - report back if the same noise is heard when you plug them in. (I am assuming that the answer will be yes)

If that is the case, can you hook any other input devices up to your receiver? (a vcr, another dvd, even the output from a small tv) just to see if another source causes the same sound. (report back if the sound is still there or not)

Do you have a "b" speaker hookup that you can try to connect the speakers to? (If so, what happens when you try that)

Can you take your speakers (even one of them) to a friends house and hook it up to their system to see if they sound ok there? (if not, load them both in the car and head to an audio shop to demo a new reciever with those speakers. - At this point I don't think you would be dishonest with anyone saying that you are thinking of upgrading what you have)

Does it make the sound all the time or just during bass passages, after the amp is warmed up, with no souce playing, etc. (when exactly does this happen)

can you tell if the sound is coming from the woofer (cone), tweeter (horn), or both speakers?

Without more exacting answers to the questions, I don't know how much more help I can be.

    Good luck,

    Michael
