Bad Year for Movies?

I read an article this weekend about the upcoming movies for the year. None of them seemed interesting, not even King Kong IMO. Lots of stuff that's already been done before ad nauseum. Do we really need another Batman movie? Yuck.

Off the top of my head I come up with these, hardly a bad year for movies...looking to be a great year as I see it.

    Charlie and the Chocolate Factory
    Kingdom of Heaven
    Revenge of the Sith
    Batman Begins
    Robots
    War of the Worlds
    Fantastic Four
    Elektra
    Sin CIty
    Bewitched
    Magnum PI
    Jurassic Park IV
    James Bond 21
    A Sound of Thunder
    Die Hard 4
The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy
    If...
Ron dislikes a film = go out and buy it.
Ron loves a film = don't even rent.

OK, whether you like them or not, of those 16 movies you listed :
    - 4 are remakes of either an older movie or a TV series
    - 6 are sequels or prequels to existing successful movies
    - 3 are based on existing books

That leaves like 4 or 5 (soime of the above overlap) movies that are actually ORIGINAL. What is going on with the creativity in Hollywood? How about instead of 20 movies a month that no one watches, you do 10 quality ORIGINAL movies? So we don't have to see Die Hard 6 when Bruce Willis is 65 years old.
If you will it, dude, it is no dream.

Remakes, sequels, book based, based on a TV series, makes no never-mind to me as long as they are done well and are entertaining.

Don't speak for everyone. If no one watched'em, they wouldn't make'em.

Most from that list I will not see in the theater but will buy on DVD.

Oh yeah, add Alone in the Dark to that list as well, the cool factor is high on this one.

Okay I'm looking at the list ROn gave us...and that's just the few that have been announced already...

So how is this a bad year for movies???

I'm with Ron, if they're entertaining and done well, then what difference does it make how they are spawned

Get rid of all of the sequels since they usually are junk. Get rid of the comic book movies since they are almost always terrible. That doesn't leave too much :)

My guesses from that list that are going to really suck:
    Batman
    Fantastic Four
Elektra <--- would put lots of money on that one
    Magnum PI
    James Bond

looking at Rons list just supports Early B's statement more..yet another year of remakes & sequels
obviously they make money otherwise they wouldnt make them
but it just makes me support independent films more..just my opinion of course

So, it may not be a bad year for movies then. Some of my favorite films of this year were independents. The list here isn't all that's coming out this year. That list is hardly concrete. I'm not willing to throw out the year after 11 days....

Revenge of the Sith = HELL YEAH!!! How bad **** does this look?
Batman Begins = Again, total bad ****!
Sin City = Looks a lot better than I was expecting... I'll see it.
War of the Worlds = The trailer is more of a teaser... didn't really give you any idea about the movie so I'm not sure how to feel about this one yet.
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory = No thanks. Looks like it's for kids and drug users... I'm neither.
Kingdom of Heaven = Looks good but I think it (much like Troy) is trying to hard to be epic. Not sure if I'll see it in the theater...
    Fantastic Four = Eeehhhhh....
Elektra = HAHAHAHAHAHA Thanks, but no thanks.
    Bewitched = :rolleyes: :rolleyes: :rolleyes:
A Sound of Thunder = WHAT THE HELL IS THAT? I just puked in my mouth.
Robots = Looks cute... Probably will wait til it comes on PPV.
James Bond 302193832 = No thanks, I'd rather watch Waterworld...

Now Magnum PI, Jurassic Park 4 and Die Hard 4 are all rumors, nothing set in stone from what I'm seeing. And I can't find anything on the Hitchhiker's guide.

I almost forgot... they're redoing the AmityVille Horror! That's bad ****!!! Loved the original and I have a feeling they'll do it justice here. But a lot of people hated the remake of Texas Chainsaw Massacre but I thought it was bad **** as well.

We need to save this thread and revisit it at the end of the year. It would be kinda interesting to see if our predictions are accurate.

I'm sick of remakes. Most of them are rarely do the original any justice. And haven't we had enough comic book movies. Geez. We've really reached rock bottom when some television shows are more interesting than most of the movies out there.

I'm of the exact opposite here. Give me Charlie over a very poorly acted, plastic looking CGI fest. Lucas may (and I hope) tie the two trilogy's together but between the rest of the crap surrounding what little story there may be I just don't think I can sit through it. I may see it in the theater but it's near the bottom of the list.

Here's a link to a very early teaser for
    Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy

There's a lot more to come too! They're doing Spiderman til #6, X-men to #4 and then will spin off of that with each character having their own movies, potentially a Gambit movie (unless they include him in #4 then he'll have his own), Hulk 2, who knows with Batman, Daredevil 2, Elektra 2, Fantastic Four 2... and that's only what I know off the top of my head. For me? I say bring 'em on! I never was a huge comic book kid but I love what they're doing with the movies personally.

    Yep, looks much more entertaining.

With Depp, Burton and Elfman behind this you can't lose. I just hope it follows the book (rumors are it does) as the previous Wilder version did not.

What got me in JIII is how they ripped off aliens II with the raptors. You know the egg is all the raptors wanted. Give me a break they are lizards. Early in the movie they state how those incredibly smart raptors would have ruled the earth with their large brain cavity. Other than that the movie was great.

    Yep that was a rant.:)
