Depends on the product. "Premium" lines, like Sony ES, usually have longer warranty than regular lines. This is part of the higher price. Labor is often covered for less time than parts, sometimes for only 90 days. For products with a 2 yrs or less manufacturer's warranty, I consider the ext warranty, but it depends on how long I expect to keep the product, how long the ext warranty lasts, how much the product & the ext warranty cost, & what I think of the service dept where I bought it. Another factor is resale value. If you can offer a transferable extended warranty to a prospective buyer, you may get more for it. The bottom line is that dealers make money off ext warranties, or they wouldn't offer them. So percentages are on the side of not buying them. And tums, cardiac medication, and tranquilizers are there if it breaks right after the manufacturer's warranty expires.Testing

I base mine on cost.... If I buy a 3k tv..yes..I'm gonna get a 5/6yr warranty...It paid off for me on my 56 on the 4th year...
I also bought a warranty... dont remember it..but did on a pos dvd player that died after 1 yr.. got a new...better one free..and even money back!
On my polk towers...I got the extended... due to the amps in the towers... regular speakers..I would not...
again...price vs. comfort... if it was to break after the manufact. warranty..would you be killing yourself...
then again..murphy's rule... if you get warranty...it will never break. you dont..its dead 1hr after warranty expires..

i got an extended warranty though CC when i bought my HTIB for college. i got the home theater in a box, plus a $450 DVD player. the guy gave it to me for $80 to cover everything, so i took it. glad i did too, cause my DVD player is on it's 3rd optical pickup. $174 each replacement, but luckily with the plan, no $ out of my pocket. that's the only thing i've really put it on. if it's only a couple hundred bucks, i don't know if it's really worth it. if it's a couple thousand, like on a RPTV, i think i would spend it. just my .02...
