I applaud what he's doing, not working with 50 cent (whatever that means)...but I don't agree with why he's doing it. That total Hollywood BS...I actually respect him a little less now...seems kind of pompass to me...
-
I actually totally agree with Jackson.
I find it humorous that people expect that because one is good at their particular craft, that automatically gives them face time with some proven talent that has gone through a long history of working to that imparticular point.
If Jackson wanted to be a recording artist, think that 50cent or eminem would be ok with it on their albums with his first shot?comment comment comment comment. bitchy. -
"Hollywood people tend to think that because one is successful in one aspect of entertainment they can bring them into this particular world and make a success out of them." I agree with him on this. Just because somone is a success in music or whatever doesn't mean they should invade the movie industry, as well. 90% of the time, it happens because of the name, not because that particular person has talent. 50 Cent, Snoop Dog(laughs), DMX, Britany Spears, etc. They may be ok singers, but they can't act worth a ****, but studios know they can make some extra money if they attach these stars to their films. There are some exceptions, very few exceptions, I might add. Will Smith and Eminem come to mind.

Will Smith and Eminem can act? Since when?
Will Smith is a one trick pony, and it's not even a good trick. His character in almost every film is the loud mouth, lanky, site gag black guy. 'Oh no you dit-ent!'
Eminem? Talk about a big bag of nothing. At least Will has ONE trick.
Check your lips at the door woman. Shake your hips like battleships. Yeah, all the white girls trip when I sing at Sunday service. -
Agreed it seems pompous, but the guy's a good actor, and he doesn't want to sully his reputation as a good actor by working opposite some **** rapper pretending he's an actor. I cna't say I wouldn't feel the same way if I could think of a similar situation in my line of work that actually made sense
In other news, Samuel L's already on my bad side because I saw some interview with him the other day where he was trying to say that the whole Ron Artest thing wouldn't have been as big a deal if Artest wasn't a black guy attacking a white fan. I hate when people try to pull the race card where it's just nonsense. I never thought he'd be that kind of ****, turns out i was wrong. If you will it, dude, it is no dream. -
I like the stand he's making. Both music and acting should take talent and not just name recognition. To me, there are so many other talented people out there that there shouldn't be any need for these cross industry people who seem to be doing it for the ego trip as much as anything else.
Hell, I'd love to do a movie with Samuel L. Jackson, but that doesn't mean that I can do it. Even if I might even be twice the actor $0.50 is.
To me, what SLJ's point is that he doesn't want to play second fiddle to an essential no name (From an acting perspective). Especially since he has had to prove himself through years of hard work.
If you worked for thirty years in an industry, become one of the most respected people in your industry, wouldn't you be pissed off if Justin Timberlake became your team leader just because he's famous? I'd be royally pissed...There is no genuine justice in any scheme of feeding and coddling the loafer whose only ponderable energies are devoted wholly to reproduction. Nine-tenths of the rights he bellows for are really privileges and he does nothing to deserve them. I don't think that Will Smith is that bad of an actor.... he's actually worse of a singer, that's for sure.
Anyway, not the point. I can't read the article here because I'm at workLudicrous gibs! -

Will Smith has proven, to me, at least, that he can act:
Six Degrees of Separation
Enemy of the State
The Legend of Bagger Vance
Ali
I don't think anyone here can argue that he didn't do an extraordinary job in Ali. (I just realized I don't have Enemy of the State on DVD...I'll have to pick that one up today) -
They may be ok singers
Uh...., no. Not really. Not the ones mentioned, anyway.Even if I might even be twice the actor $0.50 is...
If you were twice the actor he is then I guess you could call yourself......:D
Sorry, couldn't resist! -

Yeah, you're right, but I didn't want to sound too harsh. That Britany sure is a dish, though... -

I don't mind Will Smith's acting... I think he's just been type-casted in all of his major roles. Those major roles were also in crappy movies. ID4 and Men in Black are cute for a second, but are some really crappy movies overall. I've heard I, Robot follows along the same lines.Brian Knauss

I like his movies as well, but I'm difinitely NOT in love with him...
I thought he did a decent job in Bagger Vance and Ali...the rest of his movies - ID4, EOTS, BB, I,Robot, etc) - usually have him playing the same type of character, which gets a little old... -

The person I quoted knows exactly what I'm talking about, and it is meant completely in jest.
I just remember commenting how I'm not sold on Will Smith's ability as an actor because he's played very bad roles that have made movies suffer that I think could have been better with someone else. The cheese factor is something he'd be better off getting away from, IMO. I'm just not usually a fan or those types of 'blockbuster' cheese movies.
So I agree with how old his 'typical' character is getting. From my perspective I don't think he's been too worthy of the 'blockbuster' movies he's been getting.
That's just my personal opinion. I can more that respect those that enjoy his acting and his wit. It's just not my thing. -
Personally I think Sam L can go F' himself. He's always had an attitude and plays the race card every chance he gets. Just like Danny Glover.
I look to Morgan Freeman. One of my alltime favorite actors. I dont know of anytime he's ever come off with some race card crap unlike Danny Glover who wants to rally the Civil Rights Movement just because he cant get a taxi!
Actually as a rule I think all Hollywood stars are full of ****. They should stick to acting. I dont care what Susan Sarandon thinks about the war in Iraq.
Sam L does have one of my alltime favorite movie lines. "Well Im a mushroom cloud laying muthafuka, muthafuka. Everytime my hands touch brains!"

funny how this thread developed into Will Smith playing the same character all the time...
I just thought...
I've never seen Sam jackson play anything BUT his usual character...except for maybe Star Wares, but that doesn't count becuase he stunk that one up anyway... -
I hate how the media will take a huge name (yet oh so worthless) person like Fiddy Cent and put him in a movie just to help ticket sales. Now everyone thinks anyone can act and all the quality actors stop acting because they lost their love for it. I mean seriously... Shaq has done a few movies... name one that that was worth anything. He also tried to rap, did you notice how he flopped at that too? Some people try to expand out with absolutely no talent what-so-ever.
Now some exclusions to that might be Outkast. Not saying they can act (even though Andre will be in a movie this summer), but they're smart business men and started their own clothing line. There's a lot of well known people who have other talents but that does NOT mean all of them can do whatever they want because they have a name. Period.Never kick a fresh **** on a hot day.

Wasn't Samuel L Jackson in some lame **** movie about genetically altered sharks a couple of years ago? It seems like LL Cool J and some other unknowns were in it?

You're thinking of DEEP BLUE SEA, and LL Cool J was in it. He played the sterotypical black guy. The other actors in it are fairly good-Saffron Burrows(Troy), Michael Rapaport(Boston Public), Stellan Skarsg -
Yeah, I wonder why he didnt seem to mind acting beside that master thespian LL Cool J? :rolleyes:polkaudio sound quality competitor since 2005

Everybody's looking at this issue all wrong. Since when is talent a requirement for being in a movie or to be a singer or rapper? That went out of style a couple of decades ago. The only thing that matters is the money.
As for Samuel L., he is a well established actor who can turn down scripts whenever he feels like it for any reason whatsoever. In this instance, it's a personal case of artistic integrity. Whether you like him or not, you gotta give him credit for being at the top of his game.HT/2-channel Rig: Sony 50 LCD TV; Toshiba HD-A2 DVD player; Emotiva LMC-1 pre/pro; Rogue Audio M-120 monoblocks (modded); Placette RVC; Emotiva LPA-1 amp; Bada HD-22 tube CDP (modded); VMPS Tower II SE (fronts); DIY Clearwave Dynamic 4CC (center); Wharfedale Opus Tri-Surrounds (rear); and VMPS 215 sub

I don't agree on a political level with Samuel L. at all, but he's damn well one of my favorite actors. Jacking Browne? Holy Hell...amazing....Pulp Fiction? Julius is one of the most bad **** emmer effin' characters ever.
I applaud him for not wanting to work with a trash **** rapper. -
