What are your experiences? Polk says you can use inserts if there is no stud. The speakers seems very heavy for that. I've always used stands so this is new to me. Any help or ideas would be great. Thanks.

You may be able to get away with "inserts" if they are the "butterfly" toggle type, which once inserted won't come back out.
I got a couple nice little pieces of oak, 3/4" thick, 3" x 24" . And simply spanned the studs with the oak, and mounted the speakers to the oak.
    Looks decent, and is bomber.

i had to use a dry wall anchor i used a mettle one that expands and is rated for 50 lbs just dont get the plastic ones and dont use the screw in ones. or cut out some drywall and put a stud behind the drywall then put back the drwall and there you have it

I got my surrounds up this afternoon. I was able to find studs on either side of my room that worked well as far as placement. Looks good...sounds better. I don't think I'll ever buy anything non-POLK home stereo wise again. Thanks for the help guys.

uberfreix, how did you place the spkrs. ie, wall mounted directly to the sides of you listening position? How high up above ear level? How do you like these speakers for movies / music

I placed mine directly to the sides. Ideally though I would put them slightly behind the listener. Cause in my opinion with my present configuration some of the sonic impact is wasted due to 500 having 6in driver "in front" of the listener. 500f/x are really a direct radiating speaker with dipole/bipole flavor. (design, which I like). For the 7.1 channel though I would probably place them directly to the sides, although it's possible that if you have room placing them as in 5.1 configuration might work as well if not better.

I placed my 500's to the sides of my listening position.

    7 ft off the floor
8 ft to each side wall
    4 ft rear of position

Sounds freakin aewsome! Watched DTS Gladiator last night....breathtaking. For those wondering I'm running RT600i's and CS400i for front stage.
