Feel like stepping up to the plate?
CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

    My lead shot filled underwear and glass of scotch.

    Friggin sweet setup Mark.

    I like the looks of the Argos but have never heard any of those speakers.

    I've had some vintage speakers but nothing at the moment. I keep my eyes open though. Here is a pic of my 1970 Sansui AU999 integrated amp. Little thing works like a champ. They dont make em like they used to. I'm more into vintage SS than speakers. I also have a Pioneer sx650.

    Oh and by the way, I'm planning on stealing your BBQ amp. Just thought it would be fair to let you know ahead of time. Makes it more challenging. ;)

    Vintage Sansui is some real nice stuff, often overlooked by the masses. Looks great....maybe I'll steal that while you're down here, hehe.

    It depends on when you went to high school. The KLH 6 was manufactured from the late 50's to the early to mid 70's. KLH manufactured everything in-house. It started its life as a 12" two-way, and ended as a 10" two-way. I believe some early models could be used as a woofer only by unstrapping the tweeter terminals. Kloss said "It's the first two-way I designed that got everything right." It went deeper than the similarly drivered Model 17, but cost a few bucks more, so he probably sold more 17's than 6's. Then he left, formed Advent, and came out with The Advent Loudspeaker. Talk about having a knack for designing winning two-ways.

    I bought a pair of Model 6's new in 1974, and they're in use in Tiffany's bedroom right now. Sound as good as the day I got them.

    I think I got them in the 60's. The woofer is 10". The cabinet is roughly 12" x 24" x 12". So they must be the "newer" versions.

    I'll get you guys a pic tomorrow. You want vintage? Yeah, hole up mofos.

    On the KLH front, I LOVE my 17's. I've bought and sold more speakers, and good ones too, than I can remember. That being said, once I got my 2nd pair of 17's (first pair went to GG, then Jstas, so they are still 'in the family) I decided I won't ever let these go.

    One of the best 2-way designs, and most versatile loudspeakers EVER. Put em on a shelf, put em on the floor, put em on stands. Great bass response, and more importantly control. Mids are golden - vocalists are 'in the room'. Highs are soft and pleasing, with not a friggin HINT of fatigue or harshness.

    Put me in a room with 60-100w of a good sand amp, and a tube line stage, put the 17's on small stands, with a 5 degree kick-back, and you'll never see my **** again. Slide the tv dinners and bills under the door.

    I had hoped they were as good as I remembered. My high school buddy and I both bought a pair based on a recommendation. Right now I'm a little obsessed with my home theater where I have my SDAs. I guess my next A/V project will be to set the KLHs up in the family room.

    For a guy who never knew a whole lot about audio, I sure have been fortunate in my speaker selections.

    Larry, for a damn near 40 year old speaker, it's nothing short of amazing. I'm suprised they don't bring more on the used market than they do. The 17 will best most anything made today, made yesterday, or made 10-15 yrs ago, at almost any pricepoint for a shelf /2 way design - if you have the right gear on the back end.

    I passed on a pair of 17's at the local thrift, the cabinets had been wet and were coming apart at the seams. I wish they had been in better condition as I could have picked them up dirt cheap.

    It's in my showcase, although not quite as extensive.

    It is a CTC BBQ(105lbs,19x7.5x22), Parasound JC-1 Monoblock prototype....in stereo format. The JC-1 steps up some issues(2X the high current supply, more output devices and 40% more heatsink), but most of the work was done in this version. It began as a hotrod Parasound HCA-3500. The HCA-3500 is a hardcore amp if there ever was one....Ceruleance owns one, perhaps he will drop by.

    Hand built, by legends. It is basically a hotrod Parasound HCA-3500(John Curl) with extensive metalwork, custom boardwork(Carl Thompson) and hand picked/voiced components(Bob Crump)

    CTC Builders was created and was comprised of, John Curl, Carl Thompson and Robert Crump. I won't digress into their individual history, but these individuals are leaders in their respective fields. Get your read on....

    The CTC Blowtorch and BBQ made waves at the 2000, 2001 CES, and the Blowtorch to this day is considered one of the best pre-amps, ever.

    When Parasound stopped making the HCA-3500, it essentially killed production of this amplifier. It is X of 5 built, no numbers are assigned to these to my knowledge. You can still purchase this amplifier, but it is custom built.

    Parasound approached the CTC crew, which was a full fledged business, and wanted the CTC BBQ, in monoblock form....no holds barred.

    Well, CTC already thought of that, and had the groundwork laid.....it was just a matter of application. The JC-1 boardwork is again Carl Thompson, and the board components were still picked by Bob Crump.

    Just a lil' history. In the end it's just an amplifier, depends on what you make of it.
