2 sub hook up

I currently have two subs hooked up to my system an older psw50 from a RM 5400 series and the 8" sub from the 6750 series. I hooked both subs up via a splitter to the line level input on the subs. When I have a dvd such as private ryan dts or gladiator dts es the sound is amazing. however during music playback it seems overbearing. I am wondering which is the best way to hookup and at what level. The HK tech said use the splitter and the polk tech said to use the line out sub on one and speaker input from front right and left on the other.

HK avr 335 7.1
Psw50 sub 8"
RM6750 sub 8"
RM5400 front, right, center
RM6750 2 back and 2 rear

If you run off of only the left or right, you lose 3 dB of gain, which can be significant. Either way will work fine. Try calibrating your subs for movies, and then turn one off when you listen to music.

Are you positive on this? This is the first time I've heard it...

I'd say that 99% of the people who own subs (myself included) run the sub cable to either the left or right RCA, I can't imagine things being designed so that you lose 3db of gain that way...

Or maybe I'm just totally off on that one...

I have heard that several other places. Also, when I've hooked up mine and only used one cable, the volume is a little lower. I haven't measured it with my spl meter to find out exactly what level it was, but I know it was lower.

Oh, and on the original point...

Be careful when hooking up two subs becuase sometimes you can have wave cancellation and can actually end up worse than with just 1...
