My parents have that reciever, but I never did a head to head comp so take that for what it is worth:
The didicated amp will most likely sound much clearer then the reciever from my experience. Using a Kenwood VR-7070 as the pre and RT800's as the speakers, there was a substantial difference between my reciever doing the amplifying and my Carver A500X. So much so that I know that at moderate or higher volumes I could pick the difference 100% of the time.
In your case, you have (what I believe to be) better reciver than I had, but a lesser amp so the change may not be as large for you.
Is it worth $300? Well, only you can make that determination. There is no genuine justice in any scheme of feeding and coddling the loafer whose only ponderable energies are devoted wholly to reproduction. Nine-tenths of the rights he bellows for are really privileges and he does nothing to deserve them. We not only acquired a vast population of morons, we have inculcated all morons, old or young, with the doctrine that the decent and industrious people of the country are bound to support them for all time.-Menkin -
Yeah, get the Carver. It'll be money well spent.HT/2-channel Rig: Sony 50 LCD TV; Toshiba HD-A2 DVD player; Emotiva LMC-1 pre/pro; Rogue Audio M-120 monoblocks (modded); Placette RVC; Emotiva LPA-1 amp; Bada HD-22 tube CDP (modded); VMPS Tower II SE (fronts); DIY Clearwave Dynamic 4CC (center); Wharfedale Opus Tri-Surrounds (rear); and VMPS 215 sub

just make sure your Yammie has preouts. i remember someone (who's name escapes me (sid) who's receiver did not have pre outs. there is no way to hook up a amp to a receiver without pre amps. FYIPolkFest 2012, who's going>?

There is a way to do it, but it's a huge hassle. I helped a friend get one going with an HK AVR 110, it has no pre-outs. After a trip to the Rat Shack, I got it to work.Go BIG or go home!
