I just received my Jolida integrated amp, and after one minute of playing, one of the power tubes died (Svet 6550). It may be due to a bad tube or a biasing problem, but I don't want to buy new tubes until I know for certain why the tube blew out in the first place.

Just wondering if any of you guys have any used 6550's laying around that you can relinquish to a fellow Polk brethren. If so, please PM me.

Thanks.

Sorry to hear about that. Did you buy used or new? If new, the store should have a warranty on the tubes as well.

Depending on how your amp was designed to be biased, you can't just pop another 6550 in there. You'll need a matched quad. Did you look underneath to see if there's any damage on the amp? It's probably just a bad tube. If you find out it's the tube, order a matched quad and make them send it out express. That sucks, the amp didn't even get to warm up yet.

According to the manual, they don't need to be matched. However, I'll eventually buy a new matched set.

No damage that I can tell.

I bought it used. I've spoken to the previous owner already, but I want to see if it's just a bad tube before I talk to him again.

I'm fairly certain I have a Sovtek 6550 single around here.

    Let me look.

A big shout out goes to Madmax for hooking me up with the spare tubes I need. I should be back in business by Friday.
