Most of you have found this some might not. If you push the display button on the remote on say ‘widescreen’ you will see ‘cinema eq’ ‘ON’ or ‘OFF’. With it on it is like THX with the LFE cut off. I have mine set to ‘no’ and get better bass response. Just a thought!

Hmmm, that's interesting...I've never really noticed that button. I pretty much programmed my Phillips Pronto, and then threw my Denon remote in the closet :) I'll definately have to check that out.

Thanks for the tip Chris, this is great. The difference in Denon's online support(?) vs. Polk's is amazing... any tidbits on the receiver is a plus.

I don't think CHRIS is right on this one. The Cinema EQ setting on the Denon (at least on the 3801) doesn't have anything to do with bass or LFE.

    From the AVR3801 manual:
"The CINEMA EQ function gently decreases the extreme high frequencies, compensating for overly-bright sounding motion picture soundtracks."

This is similar to (-or, the same as) the ReEqualization(TM) "processing" performed by THX certified receivers, but called a different name, since the 3801 is not a THX certified receiver. I usually leave this set to "ON" since most soundtracks seem to be a little on the bright side. You can get to this setting on the front panel also, by pressing the "Surround Parameter" button, while in DPL, DD, DTS or Widescreen modes. The roll-off is very subtle, but audible. If you switch this and hear a difference in bass, it's just your imagination.

Honestly thanks Jason I did not remeber that from the manual. I guess getting ride of the brightness made it seem as you said to make the bass response better and not running my bass through the LFE I should hav made sure before posting. Sorry for any misleading guys.

I've just bought the Denon 5700 receiver 3 weeks ago from milespoint.com for $999 plus shipping and 250 miles redeemtion. So far I'm happy with it. No problem at all...:)

Do you guys have any web pages or forums for more Denon info that you use? Here's one I've found, but I'd like to find some more. Thanks.

    Chris,
A lot of people probably didn't even know the setting was there, so I think it's good to bring it to people's attention. I've always been a "manual-reader", for what that's worth..

    Peter,
I'm guessing the 5700 was replaced by the 5800?? Nice find for $1000.
