A proud new owner of a CS400I. Can't beat that Circuit City trade up deal! The difference in this and the 245I with my 800's is nothing short of amazing. Finally getting clean, understandable dialogue. Now for the surround upgrade,,,,,

Simon, at our local C.C., you can return any set of speakers, center speaker, or sub within a year of original purchase and apply the full price towards an upgrade. I think it's storewide policy.

You might want to double-check with your local CC before you plunk down any cash... my local one told me that subs are not part of the deal, and you have to have the warranty to cover speakers. Although my experience with CC is this policy could change with the phase of the moon, the manager's mood, what they want to get rid of, etc. Especially since my friend went in a month later and ugraded his twice (without the warranty) at the same location. So... ?? Closeouts on some of the 'i' line probably factor in somewhere...
I think part of the trick is being able to decipher what the kid is saying above 'The Patriot' blaring through whatever speakers and receiver are working that day at 150db's...

i just went thru this with my local cc as they told me at first they knew nothing about it,then it became you have to have the extended warranty and then after i persisted i was told they no longer had that program, even though on there web site there is a small section about the speaker trade-in policy so i called customer service who apologized and could not understand why they would tell me that...anyway they told me to talk to the manager and tell him to check his company's policies if he insisted there was no trade-in program after which the rude (beep) took my name and hung up on me only to call me back a couple of hours later to tell me i can trade in my speakers up to a year from purchase which i did and went from the rm6200 w/250 sub to the rm6600 w/350 just for the difference in price...hope this helps...later

I have traded in so many speakers at cc...its regular: You do not have to have a warranty....and it is on any home speaker...even subs they have...that is the cc policy. I dont know what other stores are making up..but get a hold of corperate!

I was in my local cc other day...and they had the velo ct150 for 454 new... my friend was like..dude..bring in your 150...been less than a year...upgraded to get that one....and then get this one for 200 less..and get some 35i's...that I have been wanting..and it would cost me like 50 bucks in the end... unfortunatly... they did not have any new ones..only demo...I could have gotten it for 399..but it looked abused...

    again:
YOU DO NOT HAVE TO HAVE THE EXTENDED WARRANTY and it applies to all speakers.. EVEN SUBS!!!!!!!

I know they have some type of style warranty like this for thier car audio stuff too...but not as familiar!

Unless the policy varies regionally, here, as far as I know, is how it works: You don't have to have an extended warranty. All you have to do is trade in spkrs within a yr of purchase. Don't have to be same brand, but I think that they have to cost more than original purchase.

For example, I decided to go back to stereo, not interested in surround at this time. I got a generic quality 3-pc ctr/satellite when I bought my surround recvr in 7/01. I wanted a decent pair of small, monitor-type "B" spkrs for talk radio, tv news, sports broadcasts, etc on my stereo recvr, as I already have large "A" spkrs for music listening. They had to fit on my telescoping satellite spkr stands.

So in 1/02, I returned the 3-pc set & got a pr of Polk all-weather spkrs, not anything fancy, but durable & adequate for non-music listening. With the rtn price figured in, the Polks were half price.

Of course, this policy is especially nice if you are doing a serious upgrade. I tend to view CC with the same contempt that many Polk Forum members do, but give credit where credit is due--this is a consumer-friendly policy. However, if an employee doesn't know what's going on, things can get frustrating.

Also u can only do the trade in one time. So like u cant upgrade your speakers every year for newer ones. Although i wish you could would be sorta nice. And if u do buy the warranty when u do upgrade u can get part of the warranty refunded as well.

I dont know about that "upgrade" one time only... My sales guy was gonna have me bring in my ct150 ..wich was an upgrade- to upgrade to another ct150 at half the cost..so I could pick up some other speakers also... He said it is the way its worded...I bet you can upgrade as many a times as you want...

the upgrade policy applies to all loudspeakers , and subs

my manager once said that center speakers did not apply because it wasn't a loudspeaker, my god.......

a center channel is a loudspeaker duh

the only thing that you cant upgrade on is ____BOSE___
because ;) we dont want to take back crappy speakers>>>>

    no serieously anthing but bose

if they say no tell them to look it up in cop its a guidline book we go buy.. and its the same at all cc's

Ok here ya go this is from the CC website about there speaker trade in policy.

If you buy a pair of home speakers from Circuit City, you have the option of upgrading to a more expensive pair within one year paying only the difference in price. This allows you to get the speakers you need now, while saving for the ones you WANT later! We only ask that you keep your original speakers in like new condition to qualify for the exchange. This speaker trade-in Guarantee is a one-time privilege and may not be repeated year after year. Also, the Guarantee does not apply to car speakers.

So if your cc lets u trade in year after year then great that is there choice to do so but i wouldnt figure on doing it year after year at every CC store.
