Not only is the cable mediocre at best, most people that own it, have never tried other stuff. Now Monster Cable feels have the right to brand the name monster...even when the name is associated with other company's.

They do indeed pull some **** crap... and monster as a company is not what i thought it was... and now i know this forum decided not to back such a company... I can agree with that...

However, i have monster for now, because its what i can afford.. its better than stock.. and **** if i can get it for dirt cheap to get me by, by all means... I don't think of it as supporting a corrupt company moreso as getting what i need as cheap as possible until i can afford better (ie: signal cable) Its like likeing someones music they make even though they are not a great person... into drugs, alcohol and abuse.... I may hate them but if the music is good its good... screw them.. I dont care what they do behind closed doors...

    FWIW
So its how you want to look at it, don't endorse them.. But if you can get something for 50% - 75% off don't cheat yourself either...

That's the difference though. Monster is hurting OTHER people. For example, they tried to get Monster Vintage, a vintage clothing company, to give them 1% of their profits. I've chatted with Victor, the owner of Monster Vintage and it is really sad that a small company like theirs has to spend so much on litigation versus an effin speaker cable company.

I currently have Monster stuff in my setup that I won't get rid of (for the same reason you do, 60% off), but I'll never buy anymore of it.

    Regards,

There are all sorts of other options out there that are much better and much less expensive than Monster. You'll find them on the Internet, not in Best Buy or Circuit City (although Acoustic Research is just as good). Audioquest, for example, makes excellent low cost cables.

By the way, I have been in Best Buy and Circuit City a couple of times and asked the salespeople what's the difference between Monster and Acoustic Research. Their response was, "Well, I'm supposed to tell you that Monster is better..." Hmmm.

Nothing wrong with buying used cables, either.

On a similar note, I had a $30 TrippLite Isobar on my 2-channel system. I recently switched to a Monster PowerCenter 3600 that retails for $499 (I paid less than half this price), but the performance is no better than the TrippLite. Luckily I didn't expect the Monster to perform any better. I bought it strictly for aesthetics. My wife loves how it matches the silver and black colors of the other audio equipment we have. But the retail price is 3x higher than it should be for what you're buying.

Wow....never heard of this before...that is really sad. Monster Cable has every right to go after those companies that use "Monster" in similar goods and services as to creat a likelihood of confusion...but a ski school? Come on!

Proud to say I dont own any Monster products although I have tried them and returned them.....looks like I will never own them.

Question: what happens when a product is purchased (say at Best Buy), and returned? Who eats the loss...the store or the company?

Reason why I ask is may be as a protest, go buy the overpriced surge protectors, open it and use it for a week and return it...not liking the sound quality of course. If Monster eats the cost, that can be used as a protest to their unfair practices.

Ultimately, we as comsumers eat the loss. Best Buy takes the product back from you, and then gets a return credit from Monster, usually what they paid for it or a little less...then Monster probably just repackages the product and resells it...or they just chunk it and eat the cost...but of course they pass those losses along to us in the form of higher prices for their products...

It's like a guy told me one time...what do you care if I steal from Best Buy, it doesn't hurt you...well, actually yes it does becuase BB has to raise their prices to compensate for those losses...

Not to derail, but because of store theft I didn't get a $400 bonus at CC. We've had over $46,000 in theft this year and counting. I think $42k or $45k was the bonus threshold.

I wonder how juicy we could make this story to submit it to something like a 60 Minutes or Dateline type of show.

I'd love to see a national report on them going after people like this and see what that does to change their tune.

You'd have to hit it from the angle that the little people are being berated and attacked and play at the heartstrings of the smaller businesses to make the story biting enough for them I'm sure.......

They would just sue the show, claiming defamation or some other horsesh!t. The shows wouldn't touch it, just due to the fact of the expense it would take to have to defend a perfectly justifiable position.

If you think they have this idea they "own" the rights to the word Monster, do you think they would hesitate to go after some TV network exercising the First Amendment???

No network would want the hassle. Not to mention the kinds of deals that can be made behind the closed office door to keep it off the tube.

Think about it. Ol' Noel might be a alot of things, but he ain't stupid...

especially at CC. It's extremely easy there... hell, I gave specific details to them when I worked there about theft and they never did anything but ask the guy if he did steal. He said no, they said ok and moved on. Pathetic. I'm still surprised they're in business after their "We want to be Wal-Mart" crusade.

I've heard they already have gone after them...

Now what about Monster Truck rally's? What about the movie Monster's Inc? The power drink Monster? I am going to talk to my head guy's at my store to see how they feel about Monster and see if they'd pick up a better line like AQ (better cables for around the same price) and Furman. Let them know what kind of company they're supporting...

Keep it up guys and gals, tell all your friends and their friends. Tell the store manager of any store that sells their overpriced, under performing products. Cut up any of their cables and send them back with the reason why. Start a grass roots boycott, hit them where it hurts, the pocketbook!

Thanks for clearing that up as far as the returns go...
I was playing with my box of stuff yesterday and lo and behold, some Monster cables that I bought 10 years or so ago that I recently replaced showed up. I still have the receipts for these and considering how much I paid, I cant justify destroying them....but I definatately will not be buying their stuff in the future...
