Freakish Volume Knob On PSW450, Help?

Please disregard title of thread stating volume knob. It is actually the crossover knob. I tried deleting this thread to submit a new one, but it wouldn't let me.

I was just wondering if anyone had suggestions. I often turn off my sub while watching DVD's because my Lsi15's go low enough for me. But with the radio and TV and its degraded sound when compared to a DVD, I turn on my sub to supplement the bass.

Anyway, one fine day I flip the switch to turn on my sub and it sounds as if its volume is all the way up. I look at the volume and it is not. I then turn the volume knob up and down and there is no change. I then push in on the crossover knob and suddenly the volume dramatically drops. Now occasionally and randomly it'll do the same thing. Then I have to mess with the crossover knob again. Additionally, when I push in on the knob and it seems to go to regular volume, sometimes I then test turning the volume knob up and down while holding in the crossover knob and only then does the volume change. I also get static sometimes when messing with the crossover knob.

What's wrong with the amp? Is the knob just bad? Is it just the contacts inside of the knob? Any suggestions as to how I might fix this? If I leave my sub on because I get it to sound regular for the time being, given that it is the crossover knob, do you think I run a risk of burning up the sub?

Thanks in advance for your suggestions.

I think the real problem is turning off the sub during dvd's lol!

I forget if you are close to St. Louis, but if you are just swing by American (where I work) with the sub and receipt. We are authorized for Polk repairs and it is probably still within the warranty period.

Or Ken S. will chime in soon with other options for you.

Sweet, good call. I didn't realize American was authorized for repairs. You guys don't show up on the Polk site. I am still in St. Louis and within the warranty period. Which store in the St. Louis area are you at?
If Ken has a better suggestion, we'll see if he says anything. But if we don't hear from him, I'll stop by.

Can't you turn off the sub in the receiver's menus, without having to keep flipping the switch?

Actually, no I can't with my current configuration because it is already set to off ;)

I have my sub wired using the speaker-level inputs, from the left and right channels, sub to off, mains set to large.

I have it this way because I'm using the L/R RCA outs for my power amp and I didn't want to use the LFE out so I could utilize the variable crossover on the sub. My AVR does not allow you to adjust the crossover point :(

I work at the Bridgeton store across from the St. Louis Mills Mall. Since our stores just opened a couple months ago, I don't think Polk has got their website updated.

I dropped her off today at American. Hopefully they'll get it straightened out. Thanks for the tip.

So I finally got my sub back (PSW450), I got it all the way home, began hooking it up and guess what, the amp that they used to replace my old one does not have the 80hz/full range switch for the speaker level hookup!!!
I guess it is crossed over at 80hz and you don't have the option for the full range on this amp.
Is polk not making this amp anymore with that option?

Or did American TV just screw up?

    Please help!
