I need a long digital coaxial cable & was thinking about making my own, isnt the coaxial cable just 75 ohm cable like you use for tv with rca ends? I tried to use audio cables & it wouldnt work. My pre-pro stated that I should use coaxial cable only. thanks

    Cabling details

S/PDIF (IEC-958) uses 75 ohm coaxial cable and RCA connectors. 75 ohm coaxial cable is inexpensive, because it is the same cable as used in video transmission (you can buy a video cable with RCA connectors to connect you S/PDIF equipments together). Coaxial S/PDIF connections work typically at least to 10-15 meter distances with good 75 ohm coaxial cable.

Also important is the wire core:
The coax used should have a pure coppercenter conductor (no copper coveredsteel or aluminum) and have good braidcoverage (90% or more).

You can for a cheapie / quickie fix is use RCA video cable. Video cable is the one being yellow its impedance is 75ohms so it should work.

Maybe not the best cable, but I don't think it will hurt anything. Been using one for 4 years now with my DVD player myself. :D
