This past Sunday I had the Great Pleasure of meeting an Icon of this little gang we call Polkies. That would be none other than the Most Venerable George Grand (of the Jersey Grands).
After keeping a long held promise, I finally got the time to trek up to George's abode, which is surprisingly close. At that time I got to meet the family, lovely women of angelic graciousness. My good man was an excellent host, even going so far as to grind up some fresh coffee for my humble consumption.
Then I got a listen to some very VERY VERY Nice tunes. I had never heard a set of AR9's before, and I'm still impressed of the detail, imaging and kick of this speaker. (George, I'm thinking about you're comments with the entertainment center. Give me some time to chew it over. I may just be able to help out.)
On we went into the stereo room. Folks, I'm in tears right now thinking about the privelege I had bestowed upon my humble being. It's just something you have to experience to appreciate. My new found idol has a set of Carver Amazing Loudspeakers, Platinum MK IV Editions, Driven by 1000 watts of vintage Carver Audio amplification per channel, with a Carver pre amp ( either the C-1 or C-11, I forgot which.)
This was, in my honest, most humble opinion, was quite simply stunning. And attainable for someone of my limited means. I've went out and listened to speakers that cost alot more, but did not have a tenth of the performance these puppies showed. And you could tell they were like a team of high strung coach horses, just chompin' at the bit and raring to go.
The name Amazing fits. That's about all I can say.
And to my new found friends, Thank you very much for your hospitality. I hope I can return the same in the very near future. The door is always open.
At the very least, you know your brother will have someone close to call if he ever has to make another unscheduled stop down here in the sticks.:D
