Surround Speakers

I was hoping to get some advice on what surround speakers would work well with my set up. I am looking to buy 2 surround speakers and also a rear center speaker.

My set up right now is:
R30s (front)
CSi20 (center)
JBL Flix1 Surrounds (these were free with another purchase a few years back)
Velodyne CHT-8 (sub)
Sony STR-DE985

The set up sound really good right now, I would just like to upgrade the surrounds and add in my rear center for 6.1 surround. Any advice is much appreciated. Thanks!

    Welcome to Club Polk!

Assuming you won't replace your JBLs with more Polk products, I would simply by another pair of JBL Flix1s, and go to 7.1, or go to 6.1 and let one speaker sit out. That way you will have good timbre matching with all of the rear speakers.
Good luck and have fun with your audio pursuits,
    Matt

I was actually looking to replace the JBL speakers. Unfortunately from what I have come across it seems as if most speakers are sold in pairs which makes getting the 3rd speaker a challenge if you dont want to buy a fourth (which I'd rather not do). I heard the Polk R15s at the store and have read good things about them. Are there any other speakers that are the same or better?

To match your front Polk R30 speakers, the choices would be:

R15 - smaller driver (5 1/4), mounts easily on the wall (built in key hole), a nice sounding little speaker (good twinkles).

R20 - basically the top section of an R30, has a key hole to wall mount, but sticks out a ways (11" deep), deeper sounding than R15.

R30 - probably overkill but an exact match to your front R30s, should be mounted on stands for use as surounds (I have them on 29" stands).

For a standard HT system I would recommend the R20, for the ultimate HT the R30. The R15 will work well if size is a consideration.

Note: My recommendations do not take into account the "Sony STR-DE985", as I know nothing about it or how much power it puts out.
    Win7 Media Center -> Onkyo TXSR702 -> Polk Rti70

I own the R20s, and Love them. If you are going for new speakers, I would suggest the R20s also.

Get R15's. We sell them for $45/pr right now so I bet you can find them online for at least that. Get two pair of them and you'll have an extra just in case one gets damaged. I mean, it's only $90...
