Any suggestions of a $5-600 a/v receiver? I was thinking of a Denon 1802 or 2802/982. I will be driving Rt1000i mains, Cs400 Center and Rt35i surrounds mounted on the back wall. This will be used for h/t as well as music. It is going in a play room being built in the basement. A powered sub may be added later if it is needed.

    .....and I'll say it again...

.....the best advice I can give you is this: go out and listen to as many as you can. Being an educated consumer, armed with the internet, I am sure you can figure out what makes are out there in your price range with the features you are looking for.

Having said that, and I'm not trying to piss anyone off, what sounds good to me may sound like crap to someone else. See what I am driving at here? Go out and demo the gear you are interested in and let YOUR ears be the judge

BTW...if you are in the Seacoast area, there used to be some good hifi shops in Portsmouth....

We all look and hear things differently { a little milder way of putting it } Go out and look at some and see what looks cool to you and what sounds best to you. Some suggestions: Denon, Marantz, Outlaw, Onkyo, Sony, etc. all those are real good for the money. Those are just some of my humble opinions. Make sure you take your time and don't let any salesman snow ball you into a quick sale. Have fun, that's what it's all about.......

.....I don't mean to come off as rude but there are a lot of variables that go into besides just sound...Personally, 5.1 is all I aspire to but a lot want 6 or 7.1. Some folks could care less about pre-outs where as, to me, pre-outs are a neccessity.......see what I am getting at here? You can give all the well intentioned advice in the world and it still be worthless because what is important to me, may not apply to you.

In my opinion Outlaw audio would be a good investment, www.outlawaudio.com . Pioneer elite would be good to. I would really stay away from Sony. There survice sucks. The moter for the volume nob on my reciever stoped working at about a year old. I sent it to sony. And after watting 6-7 months I finally got it back. To my very angry suprise they didn't even fix it. by the time I got it back the warranty was up and Sony wouldn't take it back to service, said it would cost $135 just for them to put it on the test bench. Plus the sound really sucks. I hooked my speakers up to a Pioneer Elite reciever and they sounded so much better. So good luck with your search and stay away from sony.
