A friend from a local car club I belong to sent this to me today:

Last night the General Development Plan for the NJMP and Thunderbolt Raceway was approved by the Mayor and Commissioners of Millville!
This was a major step toward a possible ground-breaking ceremony in late spring or summer. The next step is to get site plan approval from the planning board and some pesky approvals from the FAA.
Stay Tuned..... Very Happy

Joe.

Check out the track at NJ Motorsports Park

We're talking a 4.1 mile road course, 3/4 mile tri-oval and several kart tracks, a professional driving school, a racing school, sports complex, campground, airport access, business park and a membership club. Basically, one of teh largest motorsports complexes in North American is going to be about 35 minutes from my house. They will also have a memebership service much like a golf country club only for motorsports. This is big news folks! It's finally happening after 6 years in the works! Groundbreaking is supposed to be sometime in March 2005 and Phase 1 completion by Feb '06. It's also going to bring about 1500-2000 jobs to the area.

You going to go buy yourself a 914 and run the track?

Yikes, that might be tough to make legal for a track. Get their requirements ASAP.

I see, on the track I'm used to near Dallas you needed a 5-point, no windows, and a helmet/firesuit.

    Have fun!

Actually, it'll be called Thunderbolt Raceway.

Then again, Old Bridge Township Raceway Park is better known as Englishtown. It's official name is Raceway Park which sounds cool in those "sunday, Sunday, SUNDAY!...." commercials on the radio.

A cool name for a motorsports park IMO is Atco Raceway in Atco, NJ. What's really crazy is that that little dinky track is my "home track". It's where I started racing and I've been to places as far away as Hawaii and San Diego where people have heard of Atco Raceway. Apparently, it has some kind of mystique associated with it. It's about 23 feet below sea level IIRC and it's smack in the middle of a state forest full of protected land. So it's cool there at night and since it's below sea level, air density is about as good as it gets. When the track is prepped well, I have seen people cut some of thier best times there. It's old though. They need to tear up the track right and repave it to get rid of all the bumps and surface irregularities. If they do that, it will be an incredibly fast track!
