Hey guys, Im thinking about buying a 12" model in one of these subs. I have a PPI amp bridged thats running 500w(so the manual says) & figured that should be good enough for one of these. Im looking for sq but also wouldnt want it to bottom out if I decide to push it kinda hard. Im moving up from a 10" polk GNX so Im sure I will be more than pleased with whatever I choose, but I wanted to get an opinion anyways.

Hmmm, well those are both AWESOME subs.

The IDMAX is unreal. Sounds great and hits very hard. But 500 watts may not do it justice.

The W6 sounds great as well but doesnt hit as hard as the ID but would be more at home with those 500 watts.

If it were me Id vote the IDMAX for the sole reason that you dont see them everywhere and theyre not "the official sponsor of Ride with Funk Master Flex".

I'd go with a W6. Port it and it'll sound great.

Actually...if you had more power...I'd say the IDmax...but since you only have 500...the JL will probably do just. W6 has always been the better sub for JL...wich ...well..aint always sayin much! Its really personal taste. IDmax would really like some more power to "performe" right...IMO

    again, JL sucks.

ok... aherm - with 500 watts, honestly, my reccomendation would be to go with a Momo 12...

Yup, momo over ID, why? power... You're never going to get an IDmax to even MOVE with 500 watts... I ran something like 1300 watts to each of my two IDmaxes... they sounded great for a while but the durability of the sub is yet to be seen because I blew one up due to "defect" (it was visibly built wrong)... they rebuilt it - and while it held up, the other one blew up not long after... two months after that, the first one died again.

I gave up on my IDmaxes -- I was PISSED... i Had just bought a new truck (standard cab 2003 ram - yup standard cab) and SQUEEZED a custom box to fit two subs that required 1.5 cubic feet each (about) behind the damn seat - along with 4 amplifiers, 3 capacitors, cd change,r satellite ratio - etc etc....

well then they die... I WANTED TO KILL ID...

I blew a cork - damn things were out of warranty - which I can't blame ID for, but I was just upset... and while Fred did offer me a great deal on getting them rebuilt basically at "cost" (cost of parts to fix - which I will grant you is a big favor - and a nice gesture), I didn't want to deal with the shipping and the aggravation...

I sold them on ebay blown for 200 bucks total for the pair (person knew he had to get them rebuilt) and used the cash to get two AudioBahn Flame Q's that are 750 rms each... why audiobahn when I HATE audiobahn????

well it's the only sub that would function "ok" in a 1.5 cubic foot sealed box per sub... it was quickly available at circuit ****, and it was like 260 for the pair (buy one , get one 50% off)... so they're my temp fix -- had em like 8 months... somethin like that... when I decide what the hell I'm going to get for a "real" sub - I'll keep the audiobahns as spares so that if I have to sendthe subs out for repair, I have something in the mean time to tide me over.... but I think I'd probably end up going Resonant Engineering **** this time...

I honestly don't know of any 'super subs' I can trust.

I just got an ****. In fact it's sitting right next to me watching the Fox New Years Eve broadcast.

Don't have enough $$ for the amp yet.

Another sub Im thinking about is the Aluminum Eclipse's. What do you think about those? Im sure any one I chose will be better than my 10" GNX.

I dont know much about the Aluminum Eclipses but I have heard nothing but rave reviews of the Titanium series so it may not be too bad but generally Im not a huge fan of Eclipse.

The new Alpine Type X sub is supposed to be pretty bad. It got smokin reviews in this months CA&E.

Other subs I like are the Kicker L7 and the Xtant X series. I think the Orion H2 is the baddest sub out there in my opinion but for only 500 watts I would check out the Orion P series, the H2's little bro.
