Please Recommend Surround Stand Height For Mostly Music Setup

Okay, what's your opinion?
I have Lsi7's for surrounds and Lsi15's for mains. I really don't want to wall mount due to my apartment and aesthetic reasons. Also aesthetically, any stand over 36" would look quite odd in my apartment. I understand that suggested surround speaker height is 5'-6', so any stand 36" or below is not the best.
My main passion is music (DVD-A, SACD, anything live, etc) but I do like watching movies some. Probably 70% music, 20% television, 10% movies.
Should I go with 36" stands? Or is there an argument (in my set of circumstances) to go with stands that place the Lsi7's drivers at the same exact height as the Lsi15's drivers?

Thanks in advance for your responses. I plan on grabbing a couple of stands for Christmas and I'm just trying to figure out how high I want them to be.

That question is answered by where you are sitting at this very moment....get a tape measure.

Okay, got the tape measure. I'm not exactly sure what your suggestion was but I'm assuming I was to measure how high my ears were at seated position on my couch. Came up to about 34".

There you go, that's your benchmark. Stay within a couple inches of that figure. I would go high, before I'd go low. 36" sounds good to me, and is an average height for stands.

I recently purchaced stands for my rt55i's and the top of the stands are 18",which puts the top of the speaker about 36" which is about ear level when seated.In my old house I had these speakers on shelves sideways about 6' to bottom,I think they sound and look much better on stands and plus they are the same height give or take a few inches as my rti 70's.

I thought surround speakers were supposed to be ABOVE the normal listening position to give a less directed sound.

Is that only for movies, not for music?

It's a placement suggestion, not a rule. He doesn't want to wall mount them, so that's ruled out....and when you get a really high stands they are often a little unstable.

There isn't anything inherently wrong with having them at listening height.

my recs for the LSi7's is tweeter at ear level if it is in fron of you or the bottom of the woof at ear level for the surrounds. I have found that this works best for me. YMMV
