By inexpensive i mean it would need to be under $300. Either through a cheaper online retailer or perhaps ebay,

There seems to be a gap between some of the very cheap universal players from pioneer for around 150 and then it jumps to over 400 for some of the better universal players from pionner and sony.

I just want something to that does SACD well and has the seperate channel analog outputs.

Any help you guys could give would be great.

thanks

how is the sound quality on that pioneer, price of course is nice but does it do SACD and DVD audio any justice. im going to be getting a pair of lsi9's, but i really cant shell out 600 for a player.

I think the SACD playback is great on the Pioneer. I had one for quite a while and just recently sold it on here...

I bought a Denon 910 and the CDand DVD playback were superior to the Pioneer, but the Denon doesn't do SACD...I'll be getting a dedicated SACD player down the road...

Youmay be able to find a Denon 2200 for close to $300...if you can plop down a little extra cash, that would be your best choice...

I think it does have the chroma bug though...

im not concerned about video issues, just audio quality.

I was wondering, are the 5.1 channel inputes use for anything besides dvd-audio, if not i may just look for a player without dvd-audio, just sacd.

I'm the happy recipient of Polkmaniac's 563-A and I couldn't be more pleased. Video quality is superb and while I have yet to buy any SACDs, I have purchased some DVD-A's and the sound is incredible. My AVR has PLIIx so I was thinking that the DVD-A sound wouldn't be much different....WRONG!! Crystal clear multi-channel sound.

So I guess my recommendation would be to spend $150.00 on the DV-563A for now then upgrade down the road if you feel the need.

hey guys, thanks for your help, i decided i really dont need a dvd-audio player, so im just going to look for a SACD pleyer, either one that is only a cd player or a dvd/sacd player combo

ive looked at the SONY DVP-NS755V

    or the Sony SCD-CE595

the later is just a cd changer with SACD capability, im just not sure has better sound quality.

I was going to start a thread on this, but since this one is here, I guess I'll just add on my questions.

I was all set to get a Cambridge Audio Azur 640D sometime next year as my next upgrade. It plays CDs, DVDs, DVD-A discs, and MP3s (I think). However, after reading about SACD and DVD-A and dual discs, and high-definition DVDs coming out, I think I'm more confused than before....lol. I now think that I would like to have a universal player that plays both DVD-A and SACD. This way I could compare the two and I would also have access to a wider range of music.

Upon reaching this conclusion, I began to think that perhaps a $100 universal player would be the next step, so that I could play with the format for a year before plunking down some real money. However, then I remember how easy-to-please my ear is. Since I'm very far from a critical listener, wouldn't something like Yamaha's DVD-S1500 suit my needs just fine? Yeah, I'm sure the CA 640D would sound better, and I'd rather have it; but mainly because it say CA on it and I could say, "I have a CA player."

Looking at this practically, does someone think that the Yamaha DVD-S1500 would be a bad move for me? Other suggestions in this same range? Should I re-think my position and take a different route?

    Thanks!!
