Is it very important to stick with the same type of amp? I can get a NAD 216THX locally for a decent price, but I'm wondering if it will mesh well with my current setup. Any help would be appreciated.

Depends on how your using it. If you're going to drive a sub, I'd say no. Same if your going to biamp w/ it, or use it for surrounds (unless your going multi channel music, then the surrounds might not be kosher).

Amps have a signature sound, too. Some have good low character, others may be stong in the upper freqs. Transparency, brightness, depth, yada yada.

I definitely wouldn't mix them in a bridged mono set up, but you should be able to mix and match. The best thing is to try it and see if it suits you...

I was thinking of using it to power my RTi8s. I'm powering my center with the GFA-2535 bridged and just thought that because these amps have different sound characteristics that it might not sound right.

Codey, although your speakers are in the same series, they are still totally different animals. I'd certainly mix it up a bit. Try it out and you might be suprised what you hear.

I've always enjoyed NAD on Polk.

    Cheers,

How do you like the 216THX specifically? I was thinking about that or maybe trying to find a Rotel RB-980BX or a RB-990BX.

I use both NAD and Adcom amps and the combo works perfect with my Polks.
