Fiber connection gone bad?

Consider this a rookie question. I have fiber running from both my satellite receiver and DVD to my AV receiver. I've seem to have lost the fiber connection for the DVD. When I switch the fiber from the DVD connection to SAT on the back of the AV receiver, DVD audio plays correctly. It appears that the fiber connection on my receiver for the DVD has gone sour. Anyone else had this problem?
I'm using a Ymaha AV receiver
Any suggestions are welcome
Thanks in advance

Are you saying you swapped optical cables? or swapped inputs?CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

Do you have to enable the individual ports in the AVR's setup? My Denon required it.

I swapped the inputs. When I did this, the DVD player would play correctly. At first I thought I may have had a bad connection on the TV or DVD player. Then I thought maybe a cable had a problem. As it turns out it was that specific fiber port on the AV receiver. I went through the manual looking for a specific setup for fiber and didn't find anything. It was working fine for about a year and then just stopped. I have a feeling that the port has gone bad.
Another sysmpton I noticed was a bleed over from the Tuner when the DVD was connected into the right fiber port. I've gone through the setup for the TV, DVD player, and receiver with no luck.
Thanks for the replies so far.RTI12 - Main

Do you have any open Coax. audio inputs on the receiver? Those would work just as well as the optical cable, and I'm pretty sure that your DVD player will have a coax output.

Pioneer VSX-D912K
Polk CSi30 Center
RM6005 Satellites (Fronts/Surrounds/Rear Center)

I do. That's curently what I have connected for the SAT receiver.
I was just curious if anyone else ever had a similar problem.

What AVR do you use? Could/Has anybody played with your AVR recently? A little bit ago, my little brother somehow, figured out how to turn all the speakers on small, turn off the woofer and center channel, but not how to turn things to how they were. Took me awhile to figure out what the flip was wrong with my rig.
Good luck and welcome to CP,

Thanks for the welcome. I've actually been reading the posts for the past year. All of the forums here were a great help when I was purchasing various equipment for my HT setup.
I'm currently running a Yamaha receiver. I did check the settings as I thought the same thing...that somebody had changed the speaker creating a problem. The only flaw with that idea is that the settings would create a problem on all sources, not just the DVD. (At least on my receiver) I also verified all settings on the DVD player as well as the TV.
Thanks to all for taking time to respondRTI12 - Main

Just a thought, did you visually inspect the connecters on the receiver and dvd player. Could be a small piece of dust or something inside the connector and blocking the light path.Larry

That's a good thought. I never checked the actual fiber port for dust. I did verify that the cable was clean. Thanks for the suggestion. I'll let you know if it works or notRTI12 - Main

Sorry for taking so long to follow up. Spraying compressed air into the connection seems to have resolved the problem.
