...got a Kenwood eXcelon KDC-CX87 for $135. It's used but in working condition. Has all parts but the cable and manual. I can probably get a manual from Kenwood and I have the cable it needs already so I should be good.
At $135 bucks, even if it needs repair, it should still be cost effective to get it fixed.
Also, I got a quote to fix my old Kenwood PS-955 head unit. It was a flat rate of $70 for labor and roughly $30-45 for parts depending on if its just the lights that are burnt out or the LCD screen pooped the bed.
It's not worth it to get the old KDC-510C fixed. I could buy a new one for that much. I will still keep it around and build a shrine to it for it lasted almost 11 years before dying. That is pretty much unheard of anymore and a testament to the quality of Kenwood gear.
So now I shall usher in the era of the KDC-CX87 in all it's 20 bit D/A converter glory. Hopefully, by July of next year, it will be paired with a Kenwood KHD-C710 Music Keg for digital music formats like MP3 and WMA. After that, all I should be missing besides Satelite radio is an HD Tuner but Kenwood also has one of those with the KTC-HR100!
I wonder where I'm gonna cram it all in a standard cab pickup?
