Rotel 980 Amp... new power cord?

I bought the Rotel 980 that was in the classifieds here. I know it has a detachable power cord and was curious to see how much gain would I get by upgrading it and what you guys recommended I upgrade to. I'm not looking to drop a couple hundred bucks on a power cable but figured if something was well worth it, I'd like to look into it. Thoughts guys?
I'm going to be using the amp currently as a better power supply for a set of Klipsch RB-35 bookshelves in my bassment for my DJ setup. Eventually, I'll move this amp into a 2ch. setup with some LSi9's or something equivalent. So I want quality and power.

The Rotel RB 980BX amp does not have a detachable power cord.Political Correctness'.........defined

I was going to put a IEC on mine, but after looking inside I decided not to as the transformer is right behind the exsisting cord inlet and there isn't any room for the IEC socket. I then thought about mounting the IEC socket elsewhere and plugging the exsisting cord inlet hole, but decided it was too much work vs the cost of the amp. I did Dynamat the hell out of the cover and feel as though it benefited the overall sound.Political Correctness'.........defined

Why did you dynamat it? I can get dynamat at work for fairly cheap (if I remember correctly). Where all did you put it?Never kick a fresh **** on a hot day.

The dynamat reduces chasis vibration, which can be detrimental to your sound.
ie: F1Nut did a mod (God forgive me if I'm wrong on the person) which dynamated nearly a whole DVD player(s) which reduced the jitter going through the DAC(right?). -
It was Madmax, F1 doesn't have that kind of patience.CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

Well, I have seen pictures of the back of the 980 and it had a detachable cord but I receive this amp and nope... no detachable cord. Oh well.
So anyone have any input on the dynamat upgrade?Never kick a fresh **** on a hot day.

Toxis, I guarantee it wasn't a RB-980BX amp that you saw a picture of. None of Rotel's gear from that time period had detachable cords. Use Dynamat Extreme as it has a metal outer layer for better protection from the heat in a amp. You can get it for a good price at www.thezeb.com. Line the entire inside of the top cover and any "bald" spots on the chassis. I even cut thin strips to run from front to back where the vents are. Madmax isn't the only one with patience.
BTW, once the inside cover is lined you will find that the cover will not slide back on, you have to hold the sides out as you kinda lower the cover back on. Leave a 1/2" strip Dynamat free at the front and rear of the cover and at the bottom of the sides.Political Correctness'.........defined
