I just set mine up and have one question. Anybody know of a practical use for the RS232 port? Isn't RS232 soooooo 80s? I think I'll have to go dig out my TRS-80 and see if I can hack into NORAD or something...

Is there some kind of Yamaha programming software out there?

Ehh?

I used the RS232 on my 2400 for control from my computer. If you go to the site map on yamaha.com and go to the dealer only link (password=cinemadsp), you can see if they have the software available for download.

Sony ES also employs a RS-232 port for upgrades, although none have been issued to date.

I view it as a novelty, beings faster connections are becoming standard. Denon actually used it in a software upgrade of the 2900 if I recall correctly....or at least that's what I gather from the website.
CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

I love how companies are putting ports like this (USB-Firewire-Etc) and saying that they are "Futureproof." What a crock. Lucky if the put out one firmware update before they EOL it and market a "new" model with inexplicably incompatible firmware path. [grumble]

Ah, I admit it. I bought a first gen. iPod and was pretty peeved when Apple added a mess of features that seemed like no more than firmware revisions, but instead called it a gen 2 iPod and EOLed my little baby...

I'll go check out that software at Yamaha's site. I looked at some screenshots of the RX-V2500 setup screens and they look nothing like the 1500. The 2400 looks like a Tivo, while the 1500 still has the old ANSI looking graphics.
