I think I understand that this is a reference quality recording, but what I don't get is how one goes about buying a redbook cd? Are they marked somehow, like those Superbit DVDs?

Redbook is your standard, off the shelf, regular-ole gruntball cd.
Check your lips at the door woman. Shake your hips like battleships. Yeah, all the white girls trip when I sing at Sunday service.

The Redbook definition was created in 1980 by Sony/Philips, long before the newer media.

History says that it was a document with a red cover, the "Red Book", which explained the specifications and associated crap.
CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

Green Book Nickname for the Philips and Sony's ECMA-130 standard document that defines the format for CD-I (compact disc-interactive) discs.
Yellow Book Nickname for the Philips and Sony's ECMA-130 standard document that defines the format for CD-ROM (compact disc-read only memory) discs.
