1(MM124) + c500.1 = Not Impressed

Hey,

I own a 2002 Lincoln LS... Originally, I bought a MM124 from Circuit City because it came in a pretty enclosure. A few months back, I upgraded my amp to the c500.1 - this has turned out to be a huge mistake because the bass is not adeqate. I think I should have bought a different amplifier. Again, I was looking for something pretty and did not do my research.

My question: Do I need to find a Dual Voice Coil subwoofer to take advantage of the amplifier? Any suggestions? I am willing to spend $100-200. I only want one sub in my trunk.

    Well, it's been a few months... so I don't think I can take it back. I really don't want to ever step foot into Circuit City again. Like I said, I would rather dish out the money for a good sub.

    That amp is a wrong match for that sub. Its a 500 watt sub and the 500.1 is only putting out 250+ at a 4 ohm load so youre not pushing it to its full potential.

    You should stick with the sub tho. Polk subs arent necessarily slammers but they sound damn good and are no slouches in the SPL department either. The problem isnt with the sub.

    Go with Kims advice first and work with placement and enclosure and see if you can get some more output. Even tho youre only using half the power you still should be getting decent output from it. Using a ported box and venting it into the car would give more output. Facing the sub to the rear would give a little more.

    As far as getting a different amp, that Momo amp is a damn fine one and you really wouldnt want to step down. Have you thought of investing in a 2nd MM124? That would get the full 600 watts out of the underrated 500.1 and would surely give you good db.

    I look forward to going, although I hear horror stories of other CC's. Ours is pretty relaxed.

    I used to run a c500.1 and 2x MM2124's. I liked it.. not as loud as I would have liked but it was very nice.

    Short answer: Yes, you need a DVC

    If you want only one sub with a single 4 ohm VC, you are best off getting a stereo amp and bridging it mono.

    Since you only want one sub, you'll need a DVC or a different amp. (I don't know of any 2 ohm SVC on the market).

    What would you prefer to change? The Sub or the Amp
    (I'm guessing the sub because it's cheaper to exchange)

    Maybe there are some dynamics on this board I'm not understanding . . .

    He has a momo which isn't suiting his needs (and he only wants one sub) it would seem reasonable to sell. The guy in that thread has an old, blown Momo. . . it seems to make sense to me. I don't get how that's some crap on a whole other level.

    Yeah, I didnt understand that post either. But in his defense, he rarely makes sense! :p

    ED is a dirty word cause about a year or so ago there were a bunch of head that came on here from another forum and started trashing Polk and claiming ED rules. Got real ugly.

    Thanks for the clarification.

    So it has nothing to do with the product; I quite like their product, and I'm looking to get a 9Kv2 to work with my ex3550s. My ears put eD and Polk on reasonably equal plains.

    The issue is with morons who jump on a product band-wagon as the bomb (I've also noticed anamosity on here towards JL, for a similar reason - an alright product, but morons push it as THE product.

    I'm a fan of JL amps. There speakers are good, but I would agree with the criticism of over-priced.

    I am a BIG fan of MB quart comps.

    But I'm new here, so you are still on your own :D

    i really wouldnt care if it was just some random dumbasses that came over here and did that, but the fact that Ben (the owner of ED) came over here and condoned what they did was what pissed me off. that and the fact that hes screwed so many different people, its hard for me to put trust in a company that is run by a moron...

    JL is not overpriced when you compare them to other equipment in the same league. Ive done this several times one here but take any one of their products and you will find its about the same price as another high end brands offering.

    Their 1000 watt amp is the same as Xtants.

    Their W7 is the actually less than Orions H2.

    Their XR components are way less than comparable gear.

    I think me and Cody have agreed that its not that JL sucks or theyre overpriced but that you can get better for the same money. It took about 7 months and 500 posts but we found common ground! LOL
