Ok, so this is all new, just had to share... Been hearing all about the virtues of separates here, and wondering how to sample. Sooo, another trip to the local pawn shop yields a look at a lot of old junk, among which is an (I guess) antiquated Onkyo. Doesn't look like much, but it's cheap-o, and the thing weighs a ton.. (Onk A 8017 servo-integrated) I have learned here that the more it feels like a battleship, the more likely to serve like one. Well...
So I'm out the door, with my lo- budget purchase, and can't wait to hook 'er up. Then, o-migod, it's warm, it's crisp, and it images in stereo like a mf... compLETELY leaves the Yamaha in the dust, in any mode... I'm a new man audio-wise, though just as much a cheapskate. Thankin' the audio gods, and looking fwd to more discoveries.

Cheers,

K.

PS--any fans of ancient history who have a clue what the specs are, any details appreciated --- Thx again

    I like big, old Onkyo's a lot. Nikko's too.

I'll dig up some info on that piece and post it later.

Should be an Integra model, 75wpc, 82-85 with an MSRP of $450.

nice find. sounds like you scored a good deal on a vintage piece of audio gear.. and that fact that it sounds awesome is even better.

ain't it great taking a chance on a used piece of gear.. and having it turn out better than expected?

Indeed, Integra... (servo-integrated too, whatever that is...)
Cool green face LEDs on black background very Klingon-looking. Yeah, it was very cool (and cheap!) way to pick up nice gear. Would never have given it a thought, without the info gained here, figuring at the price point it had to be crappy... but it sounds like it feels, big and greasy, which is exactly what I was looking for. Sound quality is the big surprise, though probably nowhere near par with the kind of systems many here employ, but it put me in Paddy-heaven. I can have a lot of fun with this while I'm sorting out where to spend other hard earned $$s with what is now a basis to compare..

Thanks to all for the info and feedback..
