Would this be a good choice for my Rti8s? I've looked around and there is a big mix of reviews. Some people say they sound harsh or grainy, others say they sound great. Anyone have first hand experience with one of these?

    Get 2 545

    Biamp...

Forget the 555. I would suggest the 535 for the highs, but I used that and it clipped at higher volumes...

    So 545 for both!

You don't like the 555? Do you think 100 watts each to the highs and lows is better that 200 watts to both? What I mean is will the tweeters make use of their own 100 watt amp?

I heard a good difference when I put 100 watts to the RTi70 tweeter.

The 555 is acclaimed to be a good amp for the money, because it was real cheap and offered alot of power.

However, the 545 and 535 are said to be much better amps all around.

The 555 might do the trick on the lows, and the 545 for the highs.

The 535 is a good amp, but it clipped for me when I ran it on the tweeters for the RTi70 at higher volumes.

Actually, if you were to use a crossover on the 535, it would do it for the highs. I didnt cross mine over - you can get passive crossovers at PE, not sure about active ones though...

    Also...

This time around, purchase the original 545. It is a good bit smoother on the top end than the 545 II. The current 545 you have now would be perfect for the lows while the 545 original would be better for the highs.

You could then buy a 555 to power your subwoofer. That would put a kick in its step. The 555 has a damping factor of 800, and plenty of current and power to push a subwoofer... with the specs, and the fact that Adcoms are pretty forceful on the bass makes it about perfect...

Thanks, maybe I'll look for a 545 then.

I've bought a 250 watt bash sub amp (but haven't received it yet) so I can free up my 545II for the mains.

    Ah!

    Awesome!

I wouldnt purchase a 545 this time of year, christmas time - prices go up!

    Wait till after christmas :D

    Good luck!

Oh yeah, if you dont mind purchasing a crossover for the 535...

The original 535 was a flat out great amp. I still regret selling that thing!!

There's a 545 on audiogon for $150. I thought that seemed like a good price.

Why would I need to purchase a seperate cross over if I get a 535? My speakers already have them built in right?

    150 is an awesome deal...

When you biamp - you plug up the amp to the preamp/receiver...

The preamp/receiver sends it a full signal. So basically the amp is amplifying a full 20-20 signal, and it sends it to the speaker, which cuts the frequency.

If you cross it over around the crossover point of the tweeter, it frees the amp up greatly and it won't clip near as much.

Sid, quit talking out of your ****.

He COULD use a separate crossover, but he would need to bypass the speaker's built in network.

Get a 555, then save up some $, send it me, I'll get it modded for you. We just Frankenstien'd a 555 and it's pushing almost 750wpc at clipping (4ohm).

    Cheers,

    Russ,
PE sells some you just plug right up...

    Says nothing about modding?

    I still recomend dual 545 :)

Plenty of power for the RTi8

Here is a link to the crossovers by PE -

Yeah, what you are showing could serve a purpose, I thought you were talking a true external crossover.

I wonder how much you would gain in performance, due to the amp having a ltd freq response, vs the detraction in overall sound jumping through the F mods.

    Cheers,
    Russ

Holy crap! That's alot of power. But I don't think I need that kind of output or expense right now.

I'm actually using amp A of my GFA-2535 to power tweeters right now. So should I just forget about another amp and use the 545II and 2535 in bi-amp configuration?

I guess I could get some crossovers now but which ones should I get?

Yeah, it's a four channel with one side being bridgable to 200 watts which is running my center.

So should I still get crossovers?

I would try it without them first, if it clips at your highest volumes you listen at - you might wanna give em a shot.

With a return policy, no questions asked, why not...
