I need help deciding on a new receiver, I have about 8 bills to spend. I have been considering the HK 635, 630, a few Onkyo models and also Pioneer or Denon. The Pioneer 54TX also looks very good. Any other recommendations in this price range?

i think the Denon 3805 can be had for that amount. I've heard good things about Denon receivers.PolkFest 2012, who's going>?

find something on the used market on ebay or www.audiogon.com receiver technology changes too much to drop a lot of cash on a new one. You'll get far more bang for your buck with a used receiver.
Something from NAD, Rotel, or Arcam would work very well.Sony KDL-40V2500 HDTV, Rotel RSX-1067 Receiver, Sony BDP-S550 Blu-ray, Slim Devices Squeezebox, Polk RTi6, CSi3 & R15, DIY sub with Atlas 15 -
I'll second the Denon 3805 comment...it's hard to find a better product than Denon below 1K

tryrrthg has the right idea. I'll never buy another receiver brand new. IMO, it's simply not worth it. You should check audiogon.

Right now I am seriously considering the Pioneer Elite 45TX, a local dealer has it for 850 but, they are an authorized dealer so I would have the warranty. I don't know if I want to wait however many months it takes for the HK 635 to arrive. Their reps are telling me the 635 wont arrive until at least mid Jan-Feb so.... Plus, I have heard very good things about the new Elite line.My Set-Up:

Pioneer Elite BDP-23FD Bluray Player
Toshiba HD-A2 HD-DVD Player

I would take a swift kick in the jimmy before I'd buy another Kenwood.
There are many options in this bracket, check out the links provided previously....research until you can no longer read letters anymore....then narrow it down to a couple potential candidates.
When you have narrowed it down, then come back and chat.
Good luck.CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint. -
Oh believe me I have been reading and reading and reading....In all seriousness I have been researching for about a month now and have narrowed my choices to the Pioneer 54TX, HK 635 and Denon 3805. It is a difficult choice however. I found the Pioneer at etronics for 675.00, has anyone ordered from them? Are they reputable? Additionally, they offer a warranty from Phillips that covers all brands, is that worth it? Please help. Otherwise, I will end up spending 920.00 (includes tax) to buy the 54tx from a local dealer. My Set-Up:

Yamaha RX-A2020- A/V Receiver
Pioneer Elite BDP-23FD Bluray Player

I'll echo my broham Mark's comments including buying a used one. Warrenties are overrated compared to the money saved buying used, Audiogon is the place to shop.Political Correctness'.........defined

I picked up a Sony STR-DA2ES from Etronics, and didn't have any issues, and received a great price. I didn't need warranty work, but things felt good enough that if I did, it wouldn't be an issue.
Sony(ES) doesn't care who you buy their products from, so it wasn't really an "Authorized Dealer" issue for me.
However, other manufacturers are very specific on this issue.
Those are all fine choices. I would go Denon or HK, but that's just personal.CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint. -
Well, I decided on the Elite 54TX, bought it from a local dealer so that I could have the comfort of a warranty. Looking forward to firing it up!
Cheers!:)My Set-Up:
