Infinity Reference Standard
Has anyone ever listened to these? Wondering how they sounded. Little far for me to go check out myself. Also curious about build quality.

I've heard much smaller speakers sound much better.CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

They are second to none - IF you have a room large enough for them, and the fat wallet to amp them properly.
Think 'poor mans Genesis'.

I did see from some posts I was able to dig up that amping was a big issue with these. My amps wouldn't handle those. I keep watching the Krells on Ebay and Adiogon but they just don't depreciate down to a poor man's budget. Was never able to dig up an actual review by anyone. I guess they're old enough that if there was a review it's been taken off the web by now.SDS-400, SDA-1B, SVS 20-39pc+, B&K Ref 50, Denon 2900

I was fortunate enough to hear the reference standards in the mid 80's at a European audio show while in Germany.....

I have heard the following speakers mentioned in the same sentence, and the sentence addressed the issue of the finest loudspeakers available. Fairly reputable reviewers too (more than one).
Wilson, Martin-Logan, Infinity Reference Standard, Apogee, and the Carver Amazing Platinum's.
All were rated a "hair's breadth" among each other in performance. One pair was available for $2,300 if you got them in the oak finish. It wasn't the Infinity's, Wlison's, M-L's, or Apogee's. In fact, I think the IRS was upwards of $100k/pair at the time.

The "IRS" I heard was the $45,000.00/set model; which of course included freight shipping and setup for the customer. IIRC, the columns were 7' each...Source: Bluesound Node 2i - Preamp/DAC: Benchmark DAC2 DX - Amp: Parasound Halo A21 - Speakers: MartinLogan Motion 60XTi - Shop Rig: Yamaha A-S501 Integrated - Shop Spkrs: Elac Debut 2.0 B5.2
