What is the best way to hook up a sub to a receiver that does not have a LFE/sub output connection ?

Run speaker good quality speaker wire from the sub's four input terminals to the four speaker 'A' terminals on your receiver. Then run speaker wire from your sub's four output terminals to your main speakers (two to each, obviously). Then set your sub's internal crossover setting based on the type of main speaker you are using, and the blend of sound you are hearing. That's what I do when listening to 2 channel stereo configurations, and also what I'd do in a home theater setup without a sub out port on my receiver.
