Eating Healthy

There has been a lot of discussion recently about healthy eating what with Dr Atkins and Dr Phil dieting books.

For those of you who watch what you eat ... Here's the final word on nutrition and health, and it's a relief to know the truth after all those conflicting medical studies:

1. The Japanese eat very little fat and suffer fewer heart attacks than the Canadians, British or Americans.
2. The Mexicans eat a lot of fat and also suffer fewer heart attacks than the Canadians, British or Americans.
3. The Japanese drink very little red wine and suffer fewer heart attacks than the Canadians, British or Americans.
4. The Italians drink excessive amounts of red wine and also suffer fewer heart attacks than the Canadians, British or Americans.
5. The Germans drink a lot of beer and eat lots of sausages and fats and suffer fewer heart attacks than the Canadians, British or Americans.
6. Ukrainians drink a lot of vodka, eat a lot of perogies, cabbage rolls and suffer fewer heart attacks than the Canadians, British or Americans.

CONCLUSION: Eat and drink what you like. Speaking English is apparently what kills you.
Time is the best teacher. Unfortunately it kills all its students.

Sugar is the big problem, not fat or fatty foods. Soft drinks, candy, etc. We eats lots of that in the US. In fact, I have heard it said that sugar is worse for the body than cocaine. The big problem is that the liver converts sugars into cholesterol. About two thirds of your cholesterol is manufactured by the liver. Saturated fats also stimulate this process, so that's why you hear bad stuff about them. High LDL cholesterol kills, lets see, I can explain this.......

See, you have these cells in your blood called monocytes. They digest/absorb foreign matter in the blood. Optimally, they clean up whats left from infections. They pass into the space between the muscle of an artery and it's lining (the enothelium), where they begin to digest LDL cholesterol and become foam cells. This causes a lesion in the artery and a fatty streak. Platelets move into the lesion and secret growth factor accelerating the growth of smooth muscle in an attempt to repair the lesion. This causes the death of the foam cells. Dead foam cells are what we call plaque. Later the plaque can crack causing a thrombosis (blood clot), thusly a heart attack.

The most important thing to understand about this process is that in order for monocytes to digest LDL, oxidants must be present. Sooooo, this is where the role of ANTI-OXIDANTS (Vit C, Vit E and B carotene) come into play. If there were no oxidized LDL's, there would be no atherosclerosis.

Oxidized LDL's also impair the monocytes natural ability to break down blood clots. Basically, they are so busy eating up LDL, they don't have time to deal with clots. So even your natural ability to dissolve clots is impaired leading to even higher risk of heart attack.

Knowing is half the battle. hehe

That was a funny list and may be true.

I get a laugh at all the stupid people buying diet books written by fat people.

When asked what is more important to your health, diet or exercise? Jack LaLanne said exercise is KING diet is queen.

Jack said that if you are fit you can eat most anything in moderation. Organic grown food is BS. Move around more. Sell your car and get a bike and use it or just start walking. You don't need to join a gym to exersice.

Why isn't Jack's advice taken, except on his birthday? He is 91 years old I believe. Because you can't make money on his advice. And the fat people writing diet books only want to make money. Would you take advice about audio from a deaf person or video advice from a blind person? Why oh why would you listen to a fat person regarding fitness and diet, because we are stupid and dumb all over.

"Hydrogen is not the most plentiful element in the universe, stupidy is." Zappa

Americans may just be the laziest people in the world. That would explain the results of the list.

    Sorry for the rant.

Nothing singlehandedly can explain that list. Its a bunch of stupid pieces of anecdotal evidence carefully selected to explain some dumb point.

I love this big anti-carb craze the country is going through. Desperate people will buy into most anything if you lie to them.

The Atkins diet is the Bose Speakers of the diet world. It's marketed very well, but is a load of BS!

Laziness is the number 1 killer of people!

Hey, the low-carb diets are great; for people who sit on their **** all day. I've never met even a moderately-active person who lasted long on the low-carb binge.
