i figured its about time for an upgrade audio purchase. I was leaning toward a beefier amp for my SDA-2b's in the 2 channel set up. i'm currently using a Rotel RB960 (60x2) that i bought from Russman. Its sounds great, but when i kick up the listening level, it seems to struggle a bit (the basement that my 2 channel is in is somewhat large, i think that is the problem). its not a big problem, since I seldom listen at elevated levels, but i've heard you guys say that the SDA's love power.

I'm leaning toward a used amp, hopefully in the sub 500.00 range. is this a good idea? looking for a little advise from the experts as to what to keep an eye out for :D

with your $$. you should have several options for amps. If you can buy something like 200 - 250+wpc. your SDA's will love you.

sorry i can't recommend any amps for the SDA's. I've never owned a pair.

been cruising ebay, but nothing has tickled my fancy there yet. there are a couple Carver's and an Onkyo M-5060 (an earlier version of the m-506 i assume) that i have been eying. I know that my SDA's need a common ground amp, does anyone know if Carvers are common ground?

Yes certain carvers are common ground, the easiest way to tell is to use a multimeter and touch one lead to the ground terminal of one channell and the other lead to the ground terminal of the other channel,if you have continuity you have a common ground amp.P.S i have a carver m4.0t for sale that i used when i had my sda's.This is common ground amp and would power your speakers with ease.If you want more info or pics you can email or pm me.

I would say NAD or Rotel or B & K or one of the Carver
TFM to name a few, should be able to nail one of those on the gon or e-bay for way under 500.00.

    RT1

edit--ooops sorry racer, the carver racer has will do you a great job.

what does the TFM stand for in a Carver amp?

    Toxis,

I run a Adcom 5400 (125wpc) and that sucker gets pretty hot... whereas my NAD (150wpc) stays very cool compared to the Adcom. Not that the Adcom is bad.. it just runs very hot. ANd I find it a little bright and harsh sounding in the upper end.

i,ve heard that about Adcoms. to be honest, it is what steers me away from them. extreme heat makes me a little paranoid.
