running 4 ohm speakers

Could anyone tell me if a separate amp is need when running 4 ohm speakers for surroud sound (6 speakers in all) or will a good surround sound receiver do the job.

Hi Dan,
I'd just make sure the AVR you're looking at (or already have) is rated for 4 ohms. If it's not, you're potentially asking for failure of the output stage.
