Hee hee, went to the good 'ol CC tonight just to play and mess with stuff....love doing that.....
anyway, I was in the speaker section, playing some tracks on some Polks, just listening to them with a Velodyne sub and crying...when this 'Infinity" guy came up. (Infinity guys, you know who they are!!!)
so he's all like, " well I got this Infinity right heaaaa (points at some crappy bookshelf set), and they ROCK!"
so I was all like, "Hey, daddy-o, listen to these then.." pressing the button to turn on some nice RT35s. Then I progressed to the 800s, and 1000s.....the clarity and range of even the 35s, blew away the infinitys....
Needless to say, he was converted!!!!!
VIVA LA POLK!!!!!

-

you're asking for a rare thing man, a rare thing...:D -
yea I know..the problem is that only CC carries Polk in CHicago area so Im stuck with them
-
Yeah, sometimes you have to just kind of tolerate CC because they sell Polks and have pretty decent prices.
Usually, when I go, I have to re-wire one or more units that I want to listen to....sometimes the jumpers are pulled out, the line in to subs aren't hooked up right, sometimes the speakers aren't wired at all! And the sales people ALWAYS know less then you do. -
I was just in my local cc yesterday... and All CC's are in for a change. They have some new guys CC aquired from Walley world and TARGET-
The sound rooms at my local cc were not only > set up half way decent now..were full of speakers/subs surrounds.. all the price taggs were current and correct...and all were up and running! supposidly these new "big whiggs" are to travel through the stores and check in on displays, setups etc... The guy I know there even showed me the paper...wich has to be there and available at all times... incase they have an inspection... dictates where all the stuff is supposed to be and set up. .. whew...
That..however ..does not mean the employees will be any better..just the sound rooms should be working and organized.. wich means better demos'..
So .. I guess its a matter of when they will get to your cc or not?
just thought this was interesting..:D -
somone tell them to stop at the chicago area first and clean house!!!!! While they are there they might be able to organzie the dvd's in some type of logical order too..

has anyone been to one of he new CC stores? they opened on in the norristown area about 2-3 months ago, doesn't have the signature red 'socket' incorated anywhere in the ntry design, it has the on-line CC logo on the front of the building. well, the nex design sucks! totally open plan, only sound room is for car audio, all the HT speakers are set up in little coves, barely enclosed on three sides. the one i went to, the speakers weren't even set up correctly for stereo listening applications. very poor....
-
Hey, man... the stores near me are all new ones (South Florida). The speaker departments are wide open, so you have to totally crank the recievers to hear anything, which leads to some mighty distorted sound.
Plus, like I said before, half the speakers are wired wrong, or unplugged, or whatever...and it's really difficult to hear the subs because it's so wide open.
What's amazing is Polks STILL sound so godamn good there, and blow everything else there away, even though the set up sucks! Once you get them home, it's like a whole new ball game -
The new CC in Harrisburg, PA has those crappy 3-sided demo "rooms." Oh well, at least there's WeeBee.

You know CC is doing a refurbishing of there stores. I know the one here is suppost to. Although they say that is going to hurt CC bottom line as far as the stock market world goes.

the guys at wee-bee are great (well, some of them anyway). i went there to demo the cs400i when i was auditioning what to upgrade, they had none wired up, but the guy brought one out of the back(brand new out of the box, we unpacked it on the demo floor), and swapped it in where they had a 1000 set up in one of the listening rooms with the rt5000p system. the cs400i was outweighed by all the others, but i appreciated his effort in setting it up properly for me. there use to be great 20% off audio purchases coupoin for wee-bee in a local publishing, but haven't seen one in months...
i drove by hi-fi house in harrisburg the other week, didn't have time to stop in, but, are they worth checking out? anything good? -
Let me ask you a serious question, how much training do you think the guys at CC actually have in audio? I mean seriously, you can't expect a lot from HS drop-outs? (okay that one was below the belt and yes there are some decent, understanding employees at CC, but not many) Before buying the RT1000i's I went to a CC in Tyson Corner, VA and the guy that was stationed in one of the listening rooms actually knew what he was doing. He hooked up the speakers, made sure they were properly connected and even switched one of the speaker cables from a (crappy) Infinity to a RT800i so that I could hear the difference. Too bad I didn't buy from him, I went to a real audio store (well, real enough) and bought them there so if anything went wrong I could have some competent help.
Also, I once went into one of their stores in Rockville, MD and actually convinced a guy (while the employee went out of the room) to buy off the internet because prices were so cheap. I'm sure that CC (idiot, this one was an idiot, I had dealt with him before) employee didn't appreciate that one. Hehe
So I would stick with other stores that sell Polk, because (hopefully) they will at least know twice as much information that any CC employee knows. -

got a tweeter right here by wee-bee, the sonus faber's are great! haven't gieven them a 'good' demo, some sat. morning wheni have nthing to do, it's on my list. GNT, which also within 15 miles form home, they carrry B&W's, incredible speakers! as my cashflow grows, i am already thinking about owning a pair of these. a year out of school with loans though is killing my AV budget...:( i also have a marantz/mcintosh dealer here too(glick audio). don't know if you know about these, but when you're going to be in the area, let me know, i can show you where these places are at. if you coming down from hershey to check out wee-bee, the other's are both within 10 miles, you should check them out. glick's got a mini mcintosh musuem...:D
-
Yeah, I'd probably be up for that. I've never been to Glick. I'm going to be on spring break from March 2-10. WeeBee should have the LSi's VERY soon, so if they do I'll probably come down. I'll let you know if I do.

Damn, PA sounds pretty great for speaker enthusiasts (pun not intended). Down here the best things I've found are circuit city, sound advice, and a shop that builds and repairs speakers. I'm sure there are more, tho, just have to dig them out...

hey come to cc in johnson city tn, i work for cc, we have 2 sound rooms , i am over them and every thing in both rooms works perfectly,,, the only time it dosent is when one of the other sales guys unhooks somthing because they cant figue out how to get sound out of it,,,,, i sound rooms are not wired for digital
how stupid is that ,, they expect me to demo a $3000.00 dollar system in prologic>>>>what a joke ,,, so i jimmy riged some stuff
using the red audio cable out of the dvd digital coaxial output
throught the switch box and zzzzzzzzzzing dolby digital,,,,,,
its so funny when the big wigs come in and say wow how'd you do that:rolleyes:
i set stuff up the way it should be , and get bitched at for it because
its not like the ""Planogram" somthing some guys set up 100miles away seting in a room,, not even considering how it sounds, and alot of times it's impossible
o well i guess thats why they get paid the big bucks
and those guys "are" coming around looking at store to see how they are setup,,they will be at my store thurs.,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,mgrs are going crazy -
how bout this my manager likes it loud in the cc store
he say's it attracts atention, he goes in the sound rooms and turns up the onkyo 797 as loud as he can get it, so you can here it outside,, just dont go in the room ,,,it will blow your eardrums
and the distortion is unbarable.......... he blew a cs400 last wekk
and i thought that was near dam impossible.
well i fixed it i just went in to each reciver and set a max volume on them so he could'nt """crank it up as he calls it"""
and he is to stupid to figue out how to change it
lol:D
remeber some of us......."were with you""""
sorry i just had to say that -

Hi Bill
Go to CC in schaumburg, a guy called mike is really understanding and he explains most of the stuff to you, more than he is not forcing you to buy the things (i like it). -
